Default Ok, not a trader by any means but....

As a V1 owner who lost his RD to some punk kids checking unlocked cars one night. I had/have the money to replace it and it this time passed. I love V1 and will get another. Perhaps for my B-Day in February. My decision, was based on winning a Passport X50 Red, never opened still sealed plastic box on that 'e' site for $208+shipping.

I just got it today, and no it's not a refurb.....looks just fine for now. Not as Darth Vader looking as my V1 was, but nevertheless it's 'SOMETHING!'.

I welcome any comments from users, tips, mode settings etc. Anything you would like to share. I really feel I got lucky and received a nice deal here.

The X50 seems to be a descent performer. Would you say right on par with the V955 and or new Whistler XTR-695???

    Thanks and Happy Holiday's!!!!

right on with the 940, 955, 995 series. Also, I might have a chance to pickup a used x50 form a friend that has a service required message for cheap. All I have to do is send it in to escort for repair. From our testing the 8500 was much better at picking up laser than any other detector, it came in second only to the v1.

A couple of things, does it have the original serial number, not a fake looking bar code?

Now look at that sticker and next to the FFC # what is it? I assume a M4?

I would recommend playing with 2 modes at first, expert meter, which gives you multiple bands a signals at the same time with strengths.

Next, when you get used to it, switch it over to Spec display and start to learn the different freqs. esp whn you pass door openers, this will help you determine falses. Also, help if your locals are running Ka.

I wouldn't say by far, but its features are surely nicer. In terms of performance my 955 and X50 are close to dead even but it's the X50s spec mode, expert meter and other nice features that keep drawing me to it.

Yea the FCC ID is QKLX5M4. I tried the hold mute, dim, city buttons in at power on and it came up Rev. 6.3. So I must have the latest and greatest X50.

I do love the nice case it comes with. With a V1 your lucky just to get a box. Passport/Escort has always done a good job with a nice case.

Thanks for your replies and assistance.

Is this a reliable road trip detector???

I would say it's a better city detector than a highway one, for highway I would go with the v1.

It is a great detector. Quite a few differences in it and the V1 though. Just play with the different modes, spec and expert. Expert mode is the most usefull to me. I would rather know how many as to what freq. they running. C lox or nox for city driving if I really want it quiet.
I usually run H with scanning dots, POP off.

Don't let the V1 zombies dissuade you, it is excellent all around city very quiet, highway still great range.

fire, do you have any problems with ghosting in expert mode? When I got the X50 I initially ran it in spec mode and when approaching single source Ka signs, the frequency would jump around by ~50 MHz. When approaching the same signs in expert mode it'll show one bogey then around the same place where the frequency jumps occur it'll show a second bogey.
I haven't had much experience testing expert meters accuracy on K band, and X band was disabled until last week when I went to a town 50 miles away and my 955 on which I can't disable X-band alerted to a CO X-band as I approached a local LEO. Would have been a big ticket and a big fine if I had the X50 with X off.
