Default My Trial is Almost Over

I have had my 9500ix for about 3 weeks now. I have to say that I have grown to love it. It definitely has to be the quietest detector I have ever had. The gps chip is the heartbeat of the silence, once the daily commute falses have been stored and locked out. I have to say, the range is somewhat better than what I have had with my old 8500.

Even though I have learned to love it, I am returning it. I managed to find a used 9500i for less than half the price of the ix. It had a manufacture date of 2207 and I just flashed it with the newest software. I have to say that from a sensitivity standpoint, I can't tell a difference between the 2. I do like the blue lights of the ix along with the autolearn function, but for the savings in price, I can't justify the extra $. The RLC would be nice, but the closest area to me that uses it is about 70 miles away and I may be down there once every 6-8 weeks.

All I can say is that with the current economy, instability in the employment market, and Christmas upcoming, I will be more cautious with what I spend on items that aren't totally necessary. At least with my decision, the wife is happier too. She didn't mind me getting it, but it was just bad timing, as she is also concerned over her job stability too. At least if things line out in the future, I can still send this in and have it updated to the ix.

Respectable thoughts on the matter... and I certainly think you have thought this out.

Honestly: As long as you are sure the 9500i is in perfect working condition, it most likely is worth it to you in that case.

Personally I would bite the bullet and keep the ix, but you do have solid logic behind your ideas.

Not to mention you have to keep the wife happy.

I have been testing it for about 4 days now and all seems to be good. The biggest difference that I have noticed between the 2 has to do with the gps getting the inital lock. With the ix, it would typically take about 30 seconds to aquire the signal after powering it up. With the i, it is closer to 10-15 seconds.

I can also say that both units surprised me with their sensitivity to gps. As I have went from Wallyworld to a mall to a grocery store, (all within 1 mile from start to finish), I would pull the rd down and put it in the floor at the front seat to avoid prying eyes. Since these stops are so close together, I would just leave it there until I completed these "errands". I have noticed that while driving between these points and the rd in the floor, each of them have aquired gps signal while in the floor. I thought this was amazing considering it was on the floor at the front of the seat and beaming between my legs. I would have never believed they could pull a signal thru this tight of an area.

    Im with her...I mean him.

The Ix is so much better of a unit..I've had both and hands down the IX is soo much better.

But I understand the reasons why trust me alot of us are in the same boat...Good Luck!

I'd keep the ix too. I hated manually locking out, I was likely to have an accident or something watching and checking and clicking. Now it's completely automatic and I can focus on the road and it self adjusts if conditions change. Which the i does not. I could care less about the RLC since there are none around here and it's never alerted to one yet.

Oh make sure you back it up before returning it. You may one day be able to load all the auto lockouts into the 9500i.

You seem to have workes through this in a logical manner. If the i works for you keep it and return the ix. Sounds to me as if you made a smart decision.
