I'll do my own testing, if there's a difference I'll remove the grill, but the radar head will be mounted there regardless. Based on the SRX, it performed better behind the grill higher than it did having an open view lower.
I think you will still get decent performance behind the grill, just not perfect performance. I am willing to bet with the Ci, even behind the grill will still perform very well. I am wondering just one thing, is 35.5 is tricky to pick up (narrower beam?) and maybe without a full view of the road, the ci will have limitations?

I say not. When I first mounted my 9500ci radar antenna behind the grill, X and K band were excellent, 34.7 was spotty, sometimes excellent, sometimes not so good, but 35.5 detection was horrific! And, you could see right through my grill.

LJ, are fine
I was talking about the radar head and I think thats great to do your own testing, I didn't mean to offend you but was complementing the fact that if you wanted you could make it great. Sorry do what you have to do

X2, I'm just going off of DJ's observations behind his own grill, DJ is just one of those people that seemed to do everything wrong and learned the hardway (i.e. ZR3 only on the back plate) His experience is worth mentioning.

That makes me think that not only the antenna is almost like jammer head where it needs not only full view of the road, but almost no side blockage or tunnel vision like the sides of the grill or behind a grill will cause.

Re: Escort 9500ci Installed
I think that the issue of the remote RADAR antenna's "blockage" requires a bit more dissection - that it's not quite as easy to judge, based on a simple picture or our current knowledge.
http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...ad-thread.html
I really think that there's multifactorial concerns (look at metalflame's and MEM-TEK's respective analyses).
Since REB's got a V1, too, I think that it will work out well, in his case, for him to simply carefully monitor the usual band chatter on his two devices - and if the ci's performance is noted to be not up-to-par or intermittent, to THEN address the issue.

Re: Escort 9500ci Installed
*** I posted this a long time ago,but I'll post it again.Thank you TSi+WRX for providing the link. For remote RD installation, this info is basically a common knowledge/consensus on European RD Forums ***
Remote RDs are very popular in Europe and people have find out that remote receiver can be mounted behind plastic bumper or grille, without losing detection...BUT,plastic must be flat, not curved and grille must be as thin as possible (like EVO's),not thick like in thestaton's case(Chevrolet Impala).
Avoid mounting behind:
*a bumper that's made from/with carbon fibers,Poly-Carbonate
*things made with graphite,teflon,lead
*metallic paint or old paints with lead
*any metal objects
*thick grilles
Some of the newer BMW models,AUDI's and VW's have have very "bad" bumpers, that don't pass Radar signals well.VAG cars have bumpers from PPP-EPDM which attenuate radar signals.
Bumpers made with/from PP,ABS+PET, ABS, ASA, EVA, PS will pass Radar signals.

I was wondering why you think my detection was so awful behind this plastic grill that you could see right through.
