Default X50 save my day.. Attn: spec mode users

I was gathering K band data using spec mode today in the area where i live and work just to see what frequency this auto doors are using. It was showing 24.116, 24.126 and 24.166 with different auto doors. On my way home, i forgot to set it back to expert mode. I was in the process of passing an 18 wheeler before approaching the hill and my X50 suddenly gave me an alert in spec mode- Ka 34.174. I knew there was a vehicle behind me going at 80MPH but i had to step on my brakes to get to within speed limits and i'm not sure if he was mad. I was still getting a constant alert since my X50 alerted me, As soon as i got to the top, sure enough, state police was there. I think the guy following me wasn't mad at all after knowing there was LEO or he could have got the citation. I am really satisfied with the X50 ability to pick up Ka band and has never falsed on me yet in the 2 1/2 to 3 months of using it. Got another hit on my way home from a deputy sherrif's patrol car using constant on on K band showing 24.150.

Enough for that. I wanted to get data's of the frequency you get from auto door openers as well as local police/state police using your X50. Jimbonnzz has posted frequencies for most K and Ka band radar guns LEO is using and wanted to compare if majority of the frequency we get from our X50 will be the same or will there be some out of frequency readings. By gathering data's for door openers and LEO's frequency, we can have some sort of knowledge which frequency is a threat or just false alert.

What do you think guys? I'm just doing some brain storming here in terms of how i can use the X50's spec mode as a tool to find out if it is false alert or a threat alert.

Spec mode is handy for identifying makes of Ka guns by their frequencies, but K is really only one frequency: 24.150 GHz, with a 100 MHz margin of error either way (so the RD scans 24.050-24.250). K band units (both police radar and door openers) are supposed to be tuned to 24.150 but like all electronics they tend to drift, which is why you see freqs other than 24.150 sometimes.

On the other hand, if you run in spec mode in your daily commute, and get to know the frequencies of the door openers along your route, you could use the frequencies to distinguish threats. This isn't 100% reliable, as door openers can be spot-on at 24.150 and police radar can be off the mark. But if you routinely see 24.116 when passing a CVS on your commute, then one day you see 24.150 or something else, you know to keep your eyes open.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

It hasn't falsed on you on Ka band or any band? I've had mine about that long too and it falses a lot. I'd say half of my Ka detects are false but they are the ones I pay attention to most.

Ka only. Most Ka falsing is from other RD's. Falsing really depends on the area you live in. You can have more Rd's users in your area than i do and that makes a difference.

That's basically what i'm doing and i'm just trying to compare what others get from their X50 when using this mode.

Spec mode is cool. It's perfect for K band signs as long as the cops don't use X band in the area. At your usual route you see the freq display of the K band sign. If the frequency changes next time you go by, then you know it's a cop running K band in the same spot with the sign off. If the freq alternates between 2 different k band freq, it is a cop AND the K band sign. Of course if you run into Ka it will override the K alert.

If you want to see how the freq hops between two K band sources, go to a spot that has 2 k band doors near each other and watch the hop.

The detector will only hop between the two frequencies if they are the same. So if you encounter Ka band in the K band area you won't see or hear the K band during the Ka alert. Ka overides K and X. K overides X.

What brand of gun runs on this frequency? Does anyone know? Jim?

As other stated carefull with judging frequencies, LEO's and door openers can be the same or opposite of each other, the other day a came across a falsed door opener dead on at 24.150. I was very shock as I rarely see this frequency even for police radar guns , the frequencies seem to always drift. I too thought about "typing" frequencies, but I am over that, basicly I know my terratory now, know what/where/how police trickery is used, when actually speeding use a rabbit in front, and when I am out in the open respond to all alerts unless I can verify a known false.

I read a recent report, some will know of it, it detailed a semicross contry trip in which comparison of the V1 rx65 and x50, of particular interest the rx65 and x50 tech mode displayed DIFFERENT frequencies for the same bogie! Something like 10 mhz difference from each other, always! So there in it self causes great debate! Part of the reason I no longer interested in exact frequencies any longer. Perhaps one brand, or particular unit, quality control, is better than another/?
