    Default Stronger Suction Cups

    Hi everyone,
I have a 9500ix mount up high on windshield, but when outside temp reach 80F or above, the radar fell off the windshield, I replaced with 2 new suction cup but still fall off, also happend on my old 9500i. The 9500i and ix are heavy.
Escort need to make stronger suction cups to hold the radar.
I also have 2 V1 in 4 yrs, but never fell off the windshield.
    Anyone have same problem?

Escort cups suck. V1 cups are much better. I never understood buying a 300 dollar RD with these cups. What mount are you running? If you run the coiled cord it will definitely pull it off the windshield.

you said you were mounted high...if you dont mind take off the suction cups and go to RS and get some 3M superlock..its heavy duty velcro..it was -20 F here the other day and it held like a champ...also allows for a cleaner install and harder to see from the outside of your car

You would think by now they would have better mounting methods but I guess its not that easy to come up with.

I have so far done the 3m tape, a custom mount right to my mirror and now back to the suction cups.

The 3m tape worked well but I didn't have it up as high as I would of liked it so I removed and went with the custom mirror mount. that didn't last so i'm back to the suctions.

I have a great tip I got from a suction cup manufacturer, it is as follows:

Application Tip: If you want press-on suction cups to really stick to your glass window, car windshield or shower door the following tip really works.
Clean the glass you are attaching too and then spray the bottom of the cup with any hair spray and press on. The hair spray makes the cups stay on much longer and is water soluble which cleans up easily after you remove the cup.

This about Escort bad design, we don't have to fix this problem, let Escort. We spent $400 to $500 on this radars. People just call Escort let them know about bad suction cups.
V1 suction cups are thounsand time better.

in my down time today I went on a quest for my best mount option. I used the hair spray method and it fell off the windshield within 5min. Not sure if I had crappy hair spray or what, but it was a no go.
I then took a cheap cell phone screen protector from Walmart (package costs about $6 for 4 I think) and stuck that to the winshield as a buffer since my Volvo windshield has a speckled print at the top of the tint strip and I thought maybe that was a contributing factor. Still no luck. I had 2 more ideas since I again tried the visor mount and it was way to obvious to see from the front or rear of the vehicle (obvious silhoette in view).

Last two ideas were Velcro and spray adhesive. I planned to put a small amount of 4M adhesive on the cups, let them tack up, and then press them onto the windshield. I tried Velcro first though and attached it to the screen protector to avoid getting the Velcro shmeg on the glass. So far the Velcro has worked, although its not as firm a hold as the suction cups. Unfortunately there's only a thin strip on the V1 mount to adhere the Velcro once you remove the cups. I'll stick with (no pun intended) the Velcro for now, and if I'm not satisfied I'll try the adhesive spray. I use it at work and have no doubt it'll hold even crappy suction cup firm regardless of temp change.

I can tell you right now suction cups are not made to go on the dots so of course the hair spray will not work. try it on normal glass without the dots and that will work. The only way to get anything to stick to the dots is glue.
