    Default New to RD's--tips/tricks?

Hey all, I'm new to the whole RD thing but I decided to drop some cash on the 9500ix. I work at Best Buy so I got it at a good discount and had my install guys custom mount the hard-wired smart cord into my center console. Anyway, is there anything special I should do to get maximum protection and value out of my investment?

Run it in Highway mode, pretty soon it will learn the false alerts in your daily trips. After that it will be a very quiet detector. Take every alert seriously with that detector, especially if it's on a route you frequent.

The V1 guys will say get a V1, it's a great detector, but I don't think it is any better than the ix with the exception of laser detection. The V1 is off the charts there, but that won't help you 9 times out of 10. Laser jammers are the only thing that gives you a fighting chance against laser.

Radar detectors just warn you on laser that you are about to get stopped!

price is right doggy the v1 has best laser detection but big deal it dont save you when your toast none of them do, the 9500ix it way nicer and extreme quiet radar!

He probably paid $300 for that 9500ix. Make sure you buy the smart cord. I could buy them for 5.95 when I worked there. Man I miss those discounts... I dont miss working there too much though. Damn sure dont miss the pay.

There are allot of fun and cool features the ix has so Just take some time to get to know it.
The 9500I and ix are very similar in every way other than a few features so read my sticky when you have a chance (its long so take your time):
Explanation of the 9500I & TrueLock info (Tricks)
    http://www.radardetector.net/forums/escort/26868-explanation-9500i-truelock-info-tricks.html

    Some features i prefer/like:

Expert mode: shows multiple frequencies at the same time so your notified of multiple threats/falses. It also states "multiple frequencies detected" if the are more than one frequency detected at the same time.

Highway mode: provides full sensitivity at any speed.

Just know that it's another tool to add to your tool chest, and they are not full proof.
After you spend a month with it, try going to spec mode and start getting a look at what your local authorities are using. Hopefully it's 34.7 or 33.8, being 35.5 can be a tad difficult to pick up.

Also now is the time to start watching the behavior of you local authorities. Are they keeping the radar on all the time? Or are you only getting strong bursts. Hopefully they keep it on all the time.

Finally, nothing can beat your eyes and knowing your territory. Cops are simple folk, and tend to stick to the same spots to write tickets. Keep an eye out and start to remember hot spots. Also try and keep your eyes on other cars brake lights... If you see them in random places it's usually a good idea to slow it down a notch.

On Sunday night I was driving back from the Airport listening to the SuperBowl on Sirius XM. Any time a big play happened brake lights would light up any time there was a big play, which is frustrating but also funny once you figure out what's going on.

The IX is a great detector, and with a good owner you are in good hands. Next thing you need to consider is a quality laser jammer. For this don't go with anything Belscort related.

    Welcome to the Forum.

LMAO! I love how Burrhos comes into the appropriate forum (Escort) and says he already bought a 9500ix on the cheap, and the first response is to purchase a V1.
