    Default I failed my 9500ci

So I just got my 9500ci installed last week on my 2009 C63 AMG. Please see pics below for my radar receiver placement.

I was driving about 90 on a familiar highway, had GPS enbled, POP enabled, Auto mode enabled, etc. I was going up a minor hill and at the top was the State Police facing my direction. I saw him before my radar alerted and was able to slow to 80 (which is the speed listed on my ticket).

What the heck? I know I'm not invincible in this thing, but this was a fairly good line of sight. The ticket did not indicate what kind of radar was being used. I was also surrounded by many other cars going rather fast, but I was gaining on the cars in the left lane. So I figure he had been shooting the radar gun even well before I approached?

Needless to say after dropping $2,000 including install, I'm not happy.

In retrospect I should have spent more time doing the speed limit and seeing how this device responded when faced with speedtraps before I started getting more liberal with my speed.

Any advice welcome, and I'm expecting a few ha ha's--I can take it.

You just met Instant-On. He most likely didn't target any of the cars infront of you for the exact reason you state "I was gaining on them"... he saw their speed and didn't care... he wanted a big fish like you.

I/O can make any radar detector useless, I am not sure where you are located, but in NYS the Troopers will crush any detector, including a 9500ci.

You need to have a rabbit, no matter how good your detector is, and even then RD's aren't fool proof.

PS: The pictures don't work (there are none).

I am sorry for you man, visit the 'How to Beat your ticket' section of this forum.

Just take it as a lesson, good use of instant-on vs a 9500ci the I/O wins... that is what I call 'life' in NY... any RD is useless against the staties in some parts of the state.

x2...No detector will protect a driver against instant-on radar....That is why you only speed when you have an idiot in front of you speeding to lead the way

    Please repost your pictures

In the end, the detector is as good as the user. Doesn't matter what kind of a detector you have. You had no rabbit and you were blasting at 90. NO RD can do you any good with I/O. The 9500ci, the V1, or the Bel STI cannot alert you to radar that simply is not there.

Follow the golden rule of radar detection on the highway: No rabbit, no speeding.

I would encourage you to look up youtube video posts from jsb08vette (just do a search on his name). He is an LEO who is kind enough to give the public free video tours of how he uses his radar and how effective I/O is with real-time police action.

X2 to the above, but did the ci go to full alert, or ramp up at all?

This is either I/O or bad radar antenna placement against Ka, most likely 35.5Ka.
