Default Why not disable X and K band?

    Gang,

I've had my 9500i for several years now and I can't seem to think of a good reason NOT to just disable X and K band on it. In 4 years, I've never had a hit on X or K that wasn't a false.

Ka of course I want to keep because that's what the HP uses.

Anyone else gone in this direction?

    Thanks!

There are three encounters in this video showing North Carolina Staties using X band and a city PD running K band on the freeway in North Carolina.

Nice vid. Nothing new to me but Im glad that it shows others how X band is still used in NC. We just learn where our falses are and then we know when an x band is legit LEO.

X band is still out there, just lock out all the falses you want, that's what TrueLock is for. When your in areas X or K is used you wont be surprised with a ticket because you turned off a band.

Just got a X band LEO hit for the first time in many years the other day.

I guess you got the 9500i just when it came out.

    x2.

I wonder what detector he is talking about having no X/K hits on for the past 4 years, sure not the 9500i. I am assuming he had another RD then switched to the 9500i when it first came out.

At any rate, to the OP: DO NOT turn off K band, and as you can see, it would be well advised to not turn off Xband, just truelock them out (as explained above).

I'm in NC and I had two K band encounters yesterday and one today. Last week I drove through Raleigh on a trip and coming and going I had several radar encounters on K band.

Municipalities run a lot of K band in NC and some of the smaller towns still hang on to X band units. The state has a few MPH 55 X band radar that they bring out from time to time, I think just to catch drivers with detectors who think they are false alarms.

I didnt realize you guys were so worried about K band . There is more K band in NC than X band, but there are also more K falses than x falses too.
Im not concerened enough about the falses to buy a trulock RD yet tho. Theres just not enough of them to warrant the extra expense.

X and K bands are still widely in use.

In NJ virtually all major roads are still patrolled using the X band. And damn do they like to "light you up" in that state!

In MD automated speedtraps use K band. While the GPS can alert to the fixed traps, you need K band to alert you the ever growing number of mobile ones they use.

Guess it just depends where you travel as to how to set your band preferences.
