    Default Cobra XRS R7 V.S Escort 9500i

I am currently testing out different types of radars.
This is my experience using the radars. And I thought that I would like share it with everyone.
This weekend I bought a Cobra XRS R7 IntelliLink Wireless Radar/Laser Detector. I drove from Jersey City, NJ to Richmond, VA. At first Ihesitated before purchasing it because I heard people say its doesnt pick up signals good. But I did anyway.
Once i purchased it I immedately installed it (EASY). Then I pulled out the parked lot and noticed that K band signal went off! NO police or anything else but just the stores around me! Next I take it down I-95 and Every 5 to 10 mins or so random I get a POP alert, K, Ka. At first I was like oh s*** it works but then I strated to notice that it was going off to frequent and I figured that its just giving me false alrets. Check this out as I was drive back home to NJ on I-95 north. In northern VA there was a state tropper in a dodge charger SITTING RIGHT SMACK DEAD IN THE MIDDLE of the interstate with no trees or traffic around. Cobra XRS XRS R7 FAILED flat on its .........! NO Ticket by the way.
XRS R7 wireless- Returned back to the store.

Next I went to purchase the Escort 9500i. I was really sketchy about buying this one aswell because of the gps lock out. But I bought it anyway. Idrive down I95 north again to Richmond,VA and I notice a big differnence on distance x. ka. k. it works extremely well! With this system 9x out of 10 when it alerts me its a state trooper.
Escort 9500i I would recommend over the Cobra XRS radar.

Next Im am about to to check out the Beltronics Sti Driver and Beltronics 65
    Then Blinder M25 then Intercepetor.

So what you're saying is that the Cobra sucks and the 9500i kicks ass. Eye opening.

    Hi nsx479hp,

    Welcome aboard!

Well, you found out what all of us already know -- Cobra RDs have less range compared to competing models. Cobras have particularly poor range when trying to detect 35.5 Ka band radar. This is a serious problem since 35.5 is the second most common Ka band radar frequency used by police Ka band radar guns. And of course you discovered that Cobra RDs are notorious for false alerts.

Please keep writing reviews of products which you try out. I do love reading reviews written by forum members.

I thought that you were simply trying to be funny with the "eye opening" comment.

And while Cobra has introduced their own GPS model, the XRS R9G, my recent test of that newcomer suggests that while its GPS works fine, it's a bit short on talent as a radar detector.

This leaves Escort as the logical competitor, appropriate since the Escort Passport 9500i appears to be aimed squarely at the Valentine One. Instead of directional arrows it offers a host of new features, not least of which is the application of advanced technology: GPS. Escort ads suggest modestly that using GPS to record and identify specific radar hotspots and red-light camera locations (not to mention display your car's speed) may revolutionize the state of the art in radar detectors. However, their biggest claim is the promise of extreme sensitivity but without the usual penalty of excessive false alarms. Perhaps; we'd have to see.

Its beyond what any other RD in history, I literally can drive for days without a single false alert, but when it does go off you know to slow. Your test is obvious evidence of extreme sensitivity without excessive false alerts.
