Default X50 ExpertMeter only showed 1 bogey...

Tonight I had to run to the grocery store, and decided to use the X50 on the trip. When I pulled into the lot, the X50 sounded off K band due to the door openers at the store. The store is fairly new and has all K band openers. However, I noticed the ExpertMeter was only showing 1 signal bar (bogey) on K. After I parked I turned off the X50 and turned on my V1, and it immediately counted up 3 K bogeys. After I returned to my car from the store, I drove toward the doors, and even though the X50 pegged out on K, it still only showed 1 bogey. I turned on the V1 again, and it counted off 5 bogeys now while facing the doors. Still only 1 on the X50.

Since the X50 can show up to 4 X, 2 K and 2 Ka at once in Expert mode, shouldn't I have seen 2 bars on K due to the multiple door openers? I've seen this on the X50 at other stores (WallyWorld causes 2 bars on K for example), and my V1 clearly "saw" the multiple sources. Perhaps Expert mode isn't perfect? Could this cause it to miss a real threat on the same band as a false, or a 2nd real threat on the same band?

Also, one time I encountered a LEO running constant-on Ka and the ExpertMeter showed 2 Ka bogeys. Another bug?

This could be a good pthing or bad thing, the v1 has a habit of "ghosting" or the v1 just may be more sensitive and picked up more bogeys..

As far as the ka constant-on showing two bogies, there are some Stalkers that run both antennas at once instead of just allowing the LEO to flip from one to the other, maybe he was runnning both?

I run into this alot. Frequency hopping transmits on one freq and receives on another.

My V1 only ghosts on Ka. There were 4 sets of doors on this store, so that means potentially up to 8 bogeys. The X50 should have picked up at least 2 of them. When near the doors, the X50 was maxed out on K but still only 1 bogey bar.

Maybe the X50 distinguishes bogeys by the frequency difference between them, and this store's door openers were all precisely tuned? I'll have to hit it in Spec Mode next time around.

That sounds like a good guess to me.
Since the store is pretty new, maybe the motion sensors are sill very close in frequency, close enough that they can't be distinguished from each other by the algorithm that Escort uses to determine different souces.

kpatz, i experience the exact same thing with my X50 and V1 daily. My office is right next door to a shopping plaza. X50 pickups up two signals, V1 reports 7 - 9 depending upon what direction the car is pointed in.

That makes sense since the X50 only displays a max of 2 bogeys on K anyway.

Kpatz, i don't know if you still remember i ask you about this sometime ago comparing the expert mode of the X50 and the V1's bogey counter. Like you i had the same question and started to do some testing if it was because of the the ghosting is K band using the highway zapper. I encountered sometime ago 2 encounters with the X50. First one was the same situation you had with only one LEO 2 bogeys - this was a state trooper. Found out that the MPH Bee 3 uses both antenna's at the same time in standard mode and will automatically get the target speed whether you are coming from the rear or the front. The second encounter was that a state trooper vehicle was parked in front of a quick lube shop and noticed 2 bogeys in Ka band only to find out that the local PD cruiser was coming on the opposite direction. Seems like the X50's sensing of multiple bogeys is working. I was in "A" mode at that time. You're possibly right that the X50 may be using frequecy to separate one from the other. One observation though that when using the spec mode of the X50, the frequency changes in just one supermarket store and this was what i got lately - 24.116, 24.132, and 24.166. Sometime, i even get 24.150 in some auto door opener. Even in old stores, the X50 usually gets one bogey.

What i also found out during my testing with the highway zapper was that, when you do multiple press of the button or switch successively in a short period of time, it also raises the number of bogeys with the V1.

Jimbonzzzz, you have acces to a real radar gun. Can you also try doing multiple quick burst in a short period of time with the V1 possibly in an acceptable distance? I know that at point blank range, it does ghost. I'm just wondering if that will result to ghosting as well with short multiple burst like it did with the highway zapper.

Sure, I could try that out...
