Default 9500ci : Mounting the radar on the windshield

Hello. I have a Toyota FJ cruiser.

Thinking about getting a 9500ci and from researching this forum, it appears that most of the performance problems are related to radar antenna placement.

Is there any reason why I can't just mount it on the windshield?

I realize that this may defeat the purpose of a custom concealed unit but consider that :

    1. The radar antenna is just a plain black box and most people will not know that it is a radar detector, including cops.
    2. I already have other items mounted on the windshield such as the EZ Pass and another box for the parking garage, so it will not look so out of place.
    3. Mounted high up, it should give you excellent range.
    4. You still get the benefit of the GPS, LIDAR, and laser shifting capabilities.

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks in advance.

Forum member happya$$ has his mounted up there and it works very well. I personally like mine mounted in the grille, so that I can run my V1 at the same time if I want to. Also, if for some reason I think my 9500ci is not working properly, I can run a second RD to check performance.

DJ, you mean that you aren't going to install 2 9500ci's. You know, I don't want you to have to listen to any falses in case a 9500ci isn't working properly.

I am thinking of adding a STi-R running segmented Ka only to the Vette, along with the 9500 ci and V1.
Valentine One (3.858 Ice Cream Truck, 3.812 in Vette)
4 Head LI (On Vette) (7.11 CPU Regular heads front, HP Heads on the rear)
    9500ci (On Vette)

LI Quad (On Ice Cream Truck)

LI Dual (On SRX, 7.06 CPU)

ProLaser II, ProLaser III, Stalker LZ-1, LTI Marksman & Laser Atlanta "R" (looking for an Ultralyte LRB)

    2008 Corvette Z-51 Coupe

    Escort 9500 ix (Cadillac SRX)

Don't do it man, because that'll force me to keep up. Business is slow, I can't afford it right now.

Yea I know what you mean. Our buisness is still going great, but we usually run behind the economy. I'm just toying with the idea so you are safe for a while.

Unless M6D adds a toy to his!
