    Default X OFF alerting to X Band on Video!

    Okay. I made this thread a while back:

    http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...-band-off.html

    Basically, every 1 out or 100 times or so that I start my car I get X band alerts even though it is set OFF. Well, today I was driving and it started alerting to X and I decided to pull over and get it on video:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZmED7Hxbn0"]YouTube - 9500i alerting to X band with X BAND OFF[/ame]

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Amhmv7NF5Sw]YouTube - 9500i alerting to X with X BAND OFF part 2[/ame]

    Part 1: I cycle through the settings and you can see that X is already OFF.
    Part 2: I unplug it (turn it off from the power source) and when it comes back on... X is OFF like it should be.

    you: Good morning
    Shelly: Good morning!
    you: My 9500i is set to X OFF and alerts to X band sometimes
    you: any idea why?
    Shelly: There may be something wrong with the circuit board, and it may need to be returned for service.
    you: I does it randomly
    you: I have it hardwired with an Escort Smartcord
    you: it does it about 1 out 100 times that I start my car
    you: it still says X OFF when I go into the settings and it alerts to it anyhow
    you: I have a video on youtube... would you like the link?
    Shelly: Your detector will need to be returned to our factory in Ohio for service. Please call our Customer Service Department during business hours (M-F 8-6 EST) at 1-800-543-1608. They will provide you with a service number and instructions on how to return your detector to us.

    you: it seems to be a very unique problem
    you: okay.. well Thanks Shelly!
    Shelly: I have no.
    Shelly: not*

    I bet what is happening is when you turn off a band you are really not turning it off, all you really are doing is telling the detector not to alert to it. So in reality I bet the cpu is still scanning the band but the unit is not supposed to alert to it. And like all electronics that use special algorithms sometimes they screw up and do exactly opposite what you want them to do.

    BUT I thought that it actually stopped scanning for it. That is why you get more sensitivity on other bands when one is turned off, right? I think there is a GOL test demonstrating this.

    yeah but seeing your test it sure does not look like it is stopping to scan. But in reality without knowing how the firmware operates we will never know if it really does stop scanning. Also by looking at the GOL test turning off bands did not really do anything.

    Good point, my bad! It looks like POP is the only one that matters.

    And even then, it is only a 4% change, and in reality that is not much, it could easily be explained by other factors.
