    Default 9500IX Firmware Bug?

I had an interesting problem with my IX today. In the morning heading to work, there was a K band speed trailer set up, which to the IX alerted perfectly. On my lunch break, i travelled the same road except in the opposite direction, I was waiting to my IX to alert, and i looked at it and saw the spinning GPS icon. I pressed the MUTE button twice to unlock the signal, and it said it had been unlocked, but the icon kept spinning. I tried this about 5 more times to no avail. When it's unlocked, should the RD alert to the signal?

    Some interesting points:

--I only made one pass by the trailer prior to the IX apparenly autolocking it out..i thought it needs at least 3 passes.

--The area in which the trailer was placed, i have marked as a "speed trap" using the MARK button.(If it matters)

--The speed trailer has never been setup anywhere in this area since ive owned the IX, making it impossible for autolearn to have previously recorded the exact position and frequency to lock it out.

--About 3/4 a mile away is a k band door opener, but where the speed trailer was, the door opener is well out of reception range due to a hill and curve.

--I did a hard reset, and cleared ALL truelock and marked locations, then used detector tools to restore my good truelock locations (which did NOT include the speed trailer lockout). When i passed the trailer after this, it still showed the spinning icon

When you locked out the door opener did you pass the trailer at the same time? Have you updated to 1.1 it decreases the radius for a lockout i think.

No ive had the door opener locked out for months. And yes i have downloaded 1.1 in the past but do i have to do it again since i cleared the lockout memory and did a reset?

No you won't lose the update by clearing and reseting. But I think if you locked it out before updating to 1.1 you preserve the larger lockout radius if you locked it out with 1.0

I have had a few AutoLock lock outs where i just got a spinning icon and no notification. However i did lock and unlock these when my 9500ix was a 9500I.

Bug, maybe? im going to play with AutoLock for another week or so than i most likely will turn it off. I need to confirm it unlocking a false that's not there anymore first, this is the most important feature of AutoLock that I haven't herd any one report yet.

Okay, i cleared the memory again and im about to download 1.1, THEN upload my good lockouts to the RD, will this give me the smaller radius or do i need to lockout everything all over again?

Which memory did you clear? the lock outs or the settings? Via USB or the 9500ix?

Ether way it shouldn’t affect the lock out radius. The lock out radius is dependent on how strong the lock out was at the time of initial lock out.

Its always using a 1/2mi radius that can be smaller depending on the encounter.

Less than 1/2 alert = less than 1/2mi lock out in ~1/10 increments.
More than 1/2 alert = ~1/2mi lock out.

Interesting. I notice that you also had the location marked as a speed trap. I occurs to me that if a location is marked as a speed trap, then Escort may have intended for the firmware to prevent Autolearn from automatically locking out false alerts nearby a marked speed trap location. It appears though that you can't unlock the location either, which of course would be a bug.

After flashing the latest firmware, clear all lockout data and marked locations, and then turn Autolearn off. I always manually do a factory reset after flashing with RD Tools. Here is how I would then test:

-- Mark the speed sign location as a speed trap.
-- Try manually locking out the location and manually unlocking the location. Note that, in order to be sure that the change to the truelock status of the location gets correctly stored, you must drive 1 mile past the location and power cycle the 9500ix using its power button.
-- Try somewhat similar tests after turning Autolearn back on and see what happens after you have driven by the location three times. Note that you should drive 1 mile past the location and power cycle the 9500ix before doing the next run.

In any event and if there is a bug, hopefully you can figure out the exact scenario which Escort can use to reproduce the bug. If you do find a bug, don't email the info about the bug and the scenario to reproduce it. Instead, type up all of the info so that you can easily copy and paste it into the online chat window on their web site. The CS respresentative then will be able to immediately forward the entire online chat conversation including your bug report to engineering. This is the quickest way to be sure that your bug report reaches the right people.

Thank you for the info. I will give that a try later tonight
