Default Better performance on Multanova 6F

Just a link I found on my website.

A vertical mounted detector gives more range on especially the Multanova 6F radar.

How to mount it vertical? Like this: http://www.flitsservice.nl/cm_php/main_repo.php?id=642

Any possible explanation of why the range may have improved by mounting it differently? This might obviously apply to multiple detectors.

The receiver must match the polarization of the transmitter, otherwise range could be cut by 30% or even more. For most police radar it doesn't matter, as most police radar antennas have "circular polarization". But some photo radar is different: it is horizontally polarized, while the radar detectors are normally vertically polarized, hence the reason for turning the detector "on it's side".

Whether they do this on purpose to prevent detection at longer ranges I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised...

yeah. NVR2fast has done some testing on this in Hong Kong against the Multanovas and he has found some improvement in the range on the X50.

I too have done this with my V995 and tested it with numerous runs against the Multanova 6F.

Range is certainly improved with the detector in a vertical position.

if it adds range its got to be good....

does will this work on gatsos.

Has anyone found this horizontal mounting to decrease performance on regular [non multanova] radar? I'd like to try it to get better range on multanova, but don't want to lose anything on regular Ka.

I understand the concept behind Jim's post about polarity, but just wondering if anyone's done any real world range testing against car-mounted Ka with a detector mounted in this crazy way?

I guess it's easier than driving on 2 wheels [a la Knight Rider] to get the same result [!]

    swifty.

I have tried it with my V1 & RX65 in the vertical position, found no difference in range. Still picked up gatso from front at 400+ metres & rear at 200+metres,with detectors mounted up near rear view mirror.

i dont think you can get much better range on the gatsos with a good detector....

but its worth trying out, you may never know unless you test it....

there is nothing to lose by trying new mounting positions...

    every gain is a bonus!
