I haven't seen it yet, nor have I ever seen the Low Voltage one. What can I do to make sure I never do? If my X50 dies, I'm screwed, as I forgot to buy the service plan on it! ops:

Don't leave it in the car to overheat. But by now that isn't a problem. At least here...
Oh wait, Arizona, yeah take it down when you park
so it is caused by overheating?
Overheating can only exacerbate the situation. It may also be caused by other factors, but overheating can definately cause the issue.
*phew*
Good thing I do that anyway. The one thing Tempe, AZ, has more of than degrees on the thermometer is car thieves who absolutely love to find expensive radar detectors stuck to the windshield.
Saabr nailed it , heat and electronics dont match. If you take care of it, it will last longer.
Personally I think heat does play a role in the self cal and service required messages but there are also other issues. Even though Bel disagrees, I think starting your car with the unit on causes problems (power surges). I'm sure there are other issues that are not yet known to man. I just hope Bel corrects these issues.
RD on when you shut the vehicle down is potentially just as bad for sensitive electronics of any kind, too.Even though Bel disagrees, I think starting your car with the unit on causes problems (power surges).
