    Default Finally installed my SRX

so this weekend me and my roommate finally installed my Passport SRX as well as my blacked out front grill. Thanks everybody for their advice before my install, made everything go much smoother and i am very happy with my choices for where i mounted everything, although i am sure you guys will be somewhat critical of my radar antenna location. Let me know what you think. thanks guys

Also, one thing that i noticed/changed while i was reading the little manual that came with it was that when it is shipped from the factory, the settings are set to only detect laser signals but not shift them and to actually be able to get the most out the of the shifters (which is why i bought them as probably why everybody else bought them) was to be able to at least try and shift a laser hit, not just warn you of a potential insuing ticket if your over the limit. Just seemed a bit bizarre to me that it would come disabled and you would have to activate it.

That's because laser "detection" is legal in all states, whereas "shifting" or jamming is not in some.

Yes, as mentioned, it's actually illigal in some states for a retailer to posess speed detection jamming products. So every Escort product is shipped as a detector. It takes a simple change in programming, done by the user so he accepts all responsibility, to unlock the products shifting potential.

I like the shifter locations. The install looks nice and well thought out. I do not like the visible screws sticking down from the nose. I'd change those our you may catch them on something and damage the nose.

yeah trust me i hate those screws underneath my bumper as well. They kill me, but i am afraid that if i try and trim them down so they are almost flush with the bumper i run the risk of screwing up the threading at which point i could never get the nuts off it. I am going to try and simply spray paint them a dark grey for the mean time so they are slightly less visible and UGLY, but need to think of a way to shorten them without ruining the threading on them.

Thanks for the good reviews tho!

I'd be carefuly about cutting those. If you attempt do to so with a power tool, you might heat them to the point where they damage or pull through the plastic.

If it were me, I'd get a couple of carriage bolts in the appropriate size from the home depot. Something like this but smaller:

Spray paint the heads black, then pass them up through the bumper and fasten the nuts/washers on top. This would give you a nice smooth nearly invisible connection point.

If you catch those long screws on a high parking stop, you're going to do some damage. Just my 2 cents.

yeah i know trust me, since i have installed it yesterday i have made sure to keep a good 2 feet away from all parking curbs. I didnt think about reversing the screws like that, but i really should have. I need to do something soon about it though before i do run the risk of f***ing something up, but the only problem is there isnt much wiggle room to do this in there and the bumper is a bit of a PITA to take off (damn german engineering!). but it will be addressed as soon as i get a chance. in the mean time im gonna steer clear of pulling up close in parking spots. *knock on wood* ill probably just reverse in everywhere!

Nice job, and good luck with the bolts. I've been driving with an SRX for 7 years. It's a great package that's saved me more times than I can count.
