    Default Escort X50 Questions

First off I have been reading up on this, And doing research. I am convinced the Escort is the way to go. Its performance is great, And it will blend in well in my truck. As far as the arrows go, As soon as I get a good alert I am on the brakes.

Mounting: Where do you suggest mounting the Escort? I would like to mount it above my rear view mirror, Is this a bad idea?

Settings: Can I set the Escort to detect only specific bands (Example 34.000 GHz)? The way I see it if you paid attention to what bands were used in your area you could tune out all others to minize false alerts. Or would this be a bad idea, Because if Law Enforcement brought something new online you wouldnt see it?

And this Veil stealth coating is it worth the investment? I have a black truck supposedly black is less likely to reflect laser energy. If I were to coat my headlights and front plate would this have a positive effect?

Oh yeah I forgot to mention I am moving to Las Vegas this summer so I need to get the truck as Stealthy as I can afford. Help me out fellas. Thanks in advance. Matt

Escort is a perfect detector for you. I would mount it low and to the center of your windshield. When I mounted my escor there, it gave me 20-40 sec ond warnings. With the Escort, you can turn certain bands off. K KA X, you name it. Also, if you are moving to vegas, the escort provides superior filtering.

As for the veil being worth the investment, it has proven to allow 7 second warnings on cops that use laser. This is very much worth the investment

You can turn off X, K, or Ka. The only thing I would recommend turning off is X-band, if you are POSITIVE that it isn't used in your area. Other than that, there isn't any way to block frequency ranges. In general that would be a bad idea...

    Matt,

Don't spend any money on laser equipment until you know that they use laser in Las Vegas. I have only been shot twice in my whole life, once in Oregon and once in Los Angeles Ca.
I live a few hours from NV and frequent the Reno, Lake Tahoe area, the HP use Ka the most. And as we all hear, POP is big in Nevada.
Roy has said that NV POP units have gone back to MPH for problems. You can turn X off in CA & NV but if you visit OR turn it on they still have X.

    Default X50 ????

    Matt,
I own a Dodge 1500 4x4 and I mount my X50 as low and centered as possible. (on the windshield of course) I have detected laser "hits" a couple of times but don't be fooled, we drive vehicles with a large frontal areas. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with the X50. It has many excellent features and can be tailored to your driving preferences. It is also, in my opinion, unbeatable in Ka band detection both stationary and instant on. I also use Veil on my truck and my wife's Impreza. Hope this helps.

    Default First X50 Road Trip

Ok. This weekend I took my first road trip with my X50 (version 5) down to Houston. On the way down I had POP detection turned on. The detector seemed to false quite a bit and I even got 2 POP falses (that scared me to death). However, I guess the bogeys did not feel like playing yesterday be cause I only saw a couple of them. Normally, I see 5 or 6 on this route to Houston. I even saw a Houston PD officer using a laser. (Couldn't figure that one out. There was construction just ahead and traffic was only moving at 45 mph anyway.)

On the way back, I turned POP detection off. The X50 seemed to false a lot less while providing ample warning time to the threats. Again, not many LEOs playing today, but enough to help me get a feel of the X50's personality.

In conclusion, I am not 100% confident on the X50 yet. I wish the LEOs were out in force this weekend like they normally are. I had a Bel Vector 940 that I would have bet the farm on. It was a great detector while it lived. I guess a few more trips with the X50 will build my confidence in time.

Anyway, has any more seasoned X50 users experienced the same issues with POP turned on? Does the unit seem to be overly sensitive in this configuration?

    Thanks.

It will false all the time with POP on, much more than the V1 will ever false. The Escort site tells you that you will notice increased Ka falsing with POP on and that is why the default setting for POP is off.
