I have a 8500 x50 Blue.. should I upgrade?

Hey Everyone,

Just got my few radar detector about a month ago. A used 8500 x50 Blue on eBay. Works flawless (was skeptical about buying used but I didn't find the forum until after I purchased).

The only thing I have a gripe with is the false alerts, I live in the city so there's a CVS around every corner and the annoying X / K alerts drive me insane. I pretty much ignore every K band now, which is dangerous because I did run across a cop with a K band and had I been speeding it would've been to late because I ignored the signal.

Where I live there are no speed cams / red light cameras (Michigan). I have the opportunity to buy a brand new in the box sealed 9500i for $330.

The GPS lockign out false alerts will make my long commute to college / work much easier and quieter.

Do you recommend it? I can probably sell my x50 on eBay for about 200$, so it's only a $130 upgrade.

Is there anything else the 9500i has that the x50 doesn't besides GPS / locking out signals? I couldn't see anything

I am hesitant to recommend the 9500i since the 9500ix is a lot better at handling false alerts. The 9500ix is what the 9500i should have been from the get go.

Don't they use the same software? How is it better at handling the false alerts?

Yeah I thought you can upgrade the firmware online to decrease the range of locked out falses and the only difference is the more memory for the database and autolearn.

The microprocessor in the 9500ix is supposed to be more powerful too.

Sell your X50 on ebay. It will end between 200-300. My red x50 ended at 265. Eat rice and beans for a month. Now you got the money for the 9500ix. Problem solved.

Try the 30 day trial and see what you think. Only you can decide what works for you. I upgraded my X50 to a V1, but kept the X50. Nice to have a spare.

I hope I get between 200-300. I have it set at 275$ buyout or best offer right now.

The thing is that I don't need anything the IX has to offer, there are ZERO red light / speed cameras where I live. The only thing i'm upgrading is for the GPS ability to lock out false signals.

just get the 9500ix just in case they go red light. My county has just been aprroved for red light 4 months ago and they are putting the camera up at the end of the year. You never know if they gonna run red light. Its also great if you do road trips.

You can probably get away with turning X off. It's very rarely used by law enforcement these days.

I just ignore K unless it's a decent signal or an increasing signal.
