Driving in the Fla. panhandle, heading east from Tyndall Air Force Base to Mexico Beach, the road is flat and dead straight. We stay in Mexico Bch a good bit, so I knew there was a speed sign just before you got into town. In the past, my Whistler XTR695 had alerted about 1.4 miles from the sign, and the Bel RX65 about 1.5miles.
This time we had my wife's 9500ix and it alerted 3.5 miles out, went silent for a few seconds, then alerted again, silent for a few seconds, then alerted again, and kept alerting until we came up on the sign. I told my wife the initial alerts may have been from another source (figuring lots of RF interference from the airbase). However, we made a trip outbound, and didn't pick up any K-band in the area of the initial alert. On the inbound trip back to Mexico Bch the 9500ix alerted about 3.3 miles out, and on a subsequent outbound trip we again did not pick up any K-band in the area 2 to 5 miles from the speed sign.
It looks like the 9500ix did indeed pick up the speed sign both times at 3.5 miles and 3.3 miles, very impressive. I had mounted the 9500ix low in the center of the windshield on my Ford Edge There wasn't much traffic with the nearest car probably 1/2 mile ahead.
