    Hmm...

Try grounding the direct wire's ground wire to a bolt, and temporarily connecting the direct wire's positive wire alongside a fuse in the fuse box.

I will definately try that tomorrow when its light out. As for the USB problem...

I have now tested a third computer (laptop) and its still giving me the error. I will be calling Escort tomorrow for a refund. Hopefully going to pickup the 8500 X50 tomorrow until a new 9500ix arrives.

Thank you everyone for the help so far!!

Stuff like this happens from time to time. A while back I bought a new computer case. Its power supply cooked the very second I turned on the computer. Fortunately I had a new spare power supply laying around.

Did you ever get your connectivity problem resolved I am having the same problem with a brand new 9500iX direct from Escort.

I've tried to get detector tools to run on both XP and Vista. Used several different ports and cables. Camera and blackberry connect fine. XP brieffly recognizes 9500Ix but then both XP and Vista laptops show human interface device, nothing in the usb list. Of course the unit is connected to the 12 volt adapter supplied. Tried connecting to the car adapter as well. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times. It simply will not recognize the detecotr. As you know Escort technical support (i.e. a sales staff) is completely worthless.

Did you find a fix, exchange yours, or did you simply send it back and move on to another product?

    Thanks.

Fully power up your 9500ix, then plug it into your computer, and then start RD Tools. Maybe that will work.

I contacted Escort and they have arranged for me to send back my detector for an exchange, i have purchased another 950ix for testing and the USB works great as well as the detection of redlight and speed cameras (which was not functional on the previous unit)

I would say call Escort, the process went smoothly with only having to do a couple of tests while on the phone.

Yep. Did just that. I couldn't get a gps signal and couldn't mark locations. That along with the problem with detector tools and multiple laser false alerts were problems. Escort was good about taking the unit back on an exchange.
