Recall that I mentioned that my 9500ci's antenna was all but completely dead on K and Ka bands? Well, I got it back this evening and noted that the repair card had written on it "LNA". So, I inspected the LO board and saw that the repair consisted of reflowing one single solder connection between the LO board and the K/Ka LNA board. I looked at the LNA and the LNA board's solder connections to the LO board before I sent the antenna off. Sure enough, the one suspect solder connection is the one which was reflowed by the repair tech. That solder connection is about the size of a very small pin head. I thought about trying to reflow that solder connection myself, but I didn't because it is such a small connection with adjacent connections on either side of it. I could just imagine accidentally creating a solder bridge to an adjacent connection and then kicking myself for trying to fix this without a stereo microscope and a proper micro soldering tool.
I haven't hooked up the repaired antenna yet since its raining here and I have no garage. But sometime tomorrow afternoon the rain should pull out and then my 9500ci should be back in business.
