Default 9500ix says red light camera on the highway?

Is there a way to lockout a false redlight camera?

i was on the highway today and my escort shouted at me, redlight camera ahead 800ft

this is an interstate highway...it happened again on another road where there is no red light camera, but it said there was...

is there anyway to lockout a false redlight?

ive had my 9500ix for a week and loving it, but would love it more if i could lock out a few false redlight cameras...

The 9500ix marked location alerts are radial, meaning it will alert to any marked location within a given radius. That radius is determined by your speed. The faster you are going, the larger the alert radius. So, there is a RLC there, off the side of the freeway somewhere.

Now, the Cheetah unit alerts are linear, meaning they will only alert if the marked loaction is on the exact road you are driving on. So, you can turn these alerts off on your 9500ix and add a Cheetah unit to your arsenal, if these alerts are bothersome enough.

i thought it determined by the GPS coordinate already in its internal memory.

I was confused when it picked up a red light camera 800 ft to one side, when it normally gives 200-300 ft range on a normal road.

i guess because of the increased speed.

FYI. . . I've been able to delete only those alerts that I have manually added myself, to those in the data base.

I get these a lot on the highway when going under overpasses where there's intersections containing red light cameras.

I was going to post about this. The GPS knows which way you are going, and SHOULD know if you are actually on the road that has red light, so this should be preventable with software.

The other problem is, in my area, the red light database is HORRIBLE! On one street that has 2 cameras, it gives about 8 alerts in a 4 mile stretch.

I purchased this because I wanted a "quiet" detector, it is that, but not when it comes to red light. They need to do a better job....

If the Cheetah can do it, so can the 9500. Just a matter of making it smarter. Kinda surprised the alpha and beta testers didn't complain about this.

i got it ebcause my area has an abundance of speed cameras and red light cameras

1out of every 3 intersections has a red light camera. and its growing.

they have also gotten approval for speed cameras on the highway, timetable for installation is up in the air.

but i wish you could lockout the signal when your above it and when your actually on the road it will alert you.

i hope they address it soon.

They can't without a hardware rework, which would probably price it out, if it was feasible.

    here's a simplistic answer:

It has to do with the way the lockout radius was designed in the first place.

All fixed cameras are "linear", meaning you will approach them basically from 1 direction only.
a "false" k band opener sitting on the corner can spew out signals in several directions so you need to be able to lock out that section or area.

to lock out different segments of that "directionally" would end up locking out so much k band ( or x band) you'd hear even more stories of these units locking out real radar.

One suspects the database is not just an X,Y coordinate but also a direction. We have red light cameras that only face one of the 4 directions. They should at least be able to remove the alerts that come from the wrong direction. That would not require hardware modification.

Also, if they ever get their act in gear and give us software to modify the alerts with map overlays, we could modify the database.....

There are a few areas that can be improved without hardware..

It's good, but for the money, it could be better

    IMHO

There is a arrow in the display indicating where the red lights camera located if you pay attention........
