    Default 9500ci pissing me off

Well, it's mainly my fault, but I still need somewhere to vent for me doing something stupid. As you may or may not be aware of, I modified the controls to be activated by my rear window switches, and the mute is connected to my mute switch for the V1, so a total of 5 buttons; Mute, Brightness, Volume, Mode, and Mark.

Now, if you notice, there are 6 buttons on the 9500ci control module. The one I oh so conveniently chose not to carry over was the power button. I have a kill switch to control the power, so two power buttons is redundant, right?

Well, when I made that decision, I was not aware of a quirky little feature on the 9500ci that I didn't have on my SRX. That feature is the 9500ci automatically shuts it self off when it receives a low voltage.

Fast forward to this weekend, I just washed my car and it was sitting outside drying off, also getting scorching hot with the black interior. I jump in, the 9500ci automatically turns itself on like it always does, and I immediately proceed to put down both the windows. I hear a beep the 9500ci doesn't normally make, and see it flash "LOW POWER" and "POWERING OFF".

So, sometime next weekend I'll have to rip apart my center console and window switch again to press that one tiny little tack switch, and then my massively expensive radar will work again. To top it off, I broke my V1 hardwire cord too when it fell off the windshield and was swinging by its cord. That happen 2 weeks ago but I had been to busy to take everything apart that putting a new wire would require.

    Cliff Note:
I have no working radar detectors in my car

I'm not sure if this is better or worse than when I spent 3 hours thinking I broke my 9500ci screen by switching it to red, only to find out all I had to do was press that stupid little button to turn it on.

Thanks for the tip about this "feature" - I'm definitely going to keep this in mind as I design my custom control panel.

    Another note about the 9500ci...

The only way you can do a factory reset is to kill power to the 9500ci. So, if you have your 9500ci wired to a source of continuous power, then you will have to yank the fuse or install an inline power switch in order to be able to do a factory reset. All of Bel/Escort's windshield mount RDs allow you to simply use the RD's power button to turn it off before doing a factory reset. This doesn't work with the 9500ci.

I also find a normal power up every once in a while keeps my 9500ix happy. It may be me but it seems more responsive with a normal power up.

Normal Power up? Is that having power to the unit, then turning it off and back on with the power button on top of it?

Exclamation Re: 9500ci pissing me off

I would power it up by the plugging in the cord on the side personally. That power button will only last so long and then it breaks and you get really mad at the expense. Don't get me wrong, it gets used for programming menu things sometimes, but a broken Smartcord is much cheaper to fix than a power button. Please don't take this the wrong way as some may intend to do.
