    Question x50 not so good?

Ok I was looking on radartest dot com and the guy there kept praising the x50 (and said that the x50 gives nearly 0 false alerts). Being to excited about a new toy, I did not look for more reviews and ordered a refurb x50 on ebay from some authorized dealer.

Now, waiting for it, I was looking at the tests on guysoflidar dot com and their test show that the x50 is **** compared to V1, the 9500i, and about 5 Bel models.

So is one of the best or is it an avg. detector? Also, does anyone know the credibility of those two sources?

    It's a good detector.

As far as guysoflidar, I could be wrong, but I think there were 2 different platforms tested.

    X50 - "S7" Platform
Guys of LIDAR - Radar Detector Test - July 2007

    X50 - "M4" Platform
Guys of LIDAR - Radar Detector Test - August 2007

Your refurbished one will be the "S7".

Question Re: x50 not so good?

How about false alerts? Ill mostly be driving on city roads/highways in Fort Bend/Harris County. Do escorts really give off no false alerts as advertised?

The X50 is a good detector, but it will give off some false alerts. That is the reason why they invented the 9500 series, so you could use GPS to lockout all the false signals.

The X50 does have false alerts, the 9500s have ways to eliminate basically all of them.

Thanks. Are there ways I should know about which would help me detect false alerts from the x50?

9500, V1 are better than the X50 but the X50 is still an excellent performer. The V1 and 9500 series are just that good at detecting radar.

    X2

X50 is for people on a budget. Not everyone wants to spend $500 on a RD.

Since you'll be driving in that area, your also going to need a laser jammer. LEOs in Harris County have been using the Ultralyte and Prolaser 3 alot more frequently lately

It's like having a chihuahua on your dashboard... you'll learn to figure out what each growl, bark and howl means. At first you'll freak out at every little sound it makes but eventually you'll know what signals to respect/heed to (Ka for sure and majority of K 'round here) and what signals are constant stationary false signals.

X50 is a great detector. I have 9500ix but I'm keeping my x50 as back up. With detectors w/o GPS you can have relatively quiet detectors with minimum falses or V1-like way too much information detectors. Remember though a detector is an aid and not a blanket automatic protection; visually spotting LEOs ahead in likely places, paying attention to how the traffic around you are behaving and being cautious around blind bends/curves and corners (we have serious Lidar threats here) for example saves me a way more than my detectors. Once you start driving around with x50 and learn about how different signals/threats work you'll narrow it down and have a better understanding... and get that 6th sense
