    Default 8500 X50 Ka performance - Impressive

    Here's a recent encounter i had with the X50:

Last Friday on the way to work through Coppell, Texas. Came to a four-way intersection on a red light. Right as i approached, the X50 received several ka beeps, then stopped. Light turns green heading east, another beep, then nothing. This continued with intermittent 1-2 beeps. A mile later, the road took a bend heading south, with random ka warnings increasing. The road then bends heading southeast. As i approached Hwy 121 there sat a motorcyle LEO with his rear to my front, having pulled someone over for speeding. He was walking back to their car with ticket in hand. Seems to me the gun was in "idle" mode or however you might describe it. I drive this route every day, just to realize how the X50 picked up the radar gun from 2 miles away, while not even in use.

I drove the same route this morning, and measured the distance. Exactly 2 miles. On a normal day, with no LEO's present, there's no false alarms down the same stretch of road.

I'm totally impressed with the performance of this unit.

Tried to copy/paste mapquest, showing the exact distance for this route from that intersection to Hwy 121, but it wouldn't let me paste it.

Yeah, i got a ticket down the same stretch 1 month ago, by a Coppell motorcycle cop, instant-on Ka! I had my Bel 985, but no detector would have done any good. Cost: $250 - 51 in a 35 mph zone. Taking online defensive driving course to get the ticket dismissed. Only paid $95 + the online course($25). With that old 985, down the same stetch - there was no comparison to the X50.

I'm in Irving, just south of Coppell. The 121 where i'm at is the "newer" 121 right where I-35 and Hwy 121 are. Vista Ridge mall in Lewisville is right there. I know where 183 and Irving mall are, if that's the location you're speaking of.

I haven't run into laser yet, probably makes you jump outta your car seat!

Motorcycle LEOs usually use instant-on when speed-trapping. That's what you were probably picking up initially, and then he might have just left it on while writing the ticket. Phoenix PD do things like that--they get to write a ticket and keep the flow of traffic slower while writing it.

Still, that's pretty impressive range, especially on Ka.

    I live in coppell tx
what was the road you were on?
Sounds like you were on denton tap.
The only falses i get in coppell are k band. mostly next to comerica bank.
There is almost always a motorcycle cop on denton tap just before you get to the ball field. he sits in the turn lane past the bridge. You cant see him untill its to late.
As far as 121 goes they sit under the bridge as you come down that long hill aproaching 121 going south. thats a 40 mph speed zone.
Ive seen people fly down that hill!
BTW most of denton tap in coppell is 40mph.
The cops here are radar fanatics. Crime is low.
90% of coppell police do nothing but run radar. KA band.
Although i talked to a cop one day and he told me they were geting all new radar units.
All i see is Kustom KA band radar guns.
