Even if there were a full second delay, at 60mph that would amount to only 88 feet.

If it's laser or an instant-on radar gun, your toast with or without a delay. With normal X, K or Ka radar, an 88 foot delay is irrelevant to me. I'd give up several hundred feet to help prevent a bunch of false alerts, which is what the 9500ix is so good at.

Not true. These delays could be the difference between missing or detecting a detectable I/O shot, prior to the target area. They could be the difference between a ticket or no ticket. This is not a trivial issue of a few feet. In this video, without the alert quickness of the V1, I would have been toast.

    Hey djrams,

Valentine should pay you to have this video on their web site. Yes, you would have been toast without that early V1 warning.

Where was this? Looks like out in sticks around Joshua Tree or Palm Springs area? Nice spot for that CHP; get them going in either direction.

My girl keeps telling herself that the obsession I have with all this will pay off somehow. So far, um, not so much. The funny thing about this statement is that the Whistler fans are always saying that I'm an Escort zombie, because I run my 9500ci at the same time as the Whistler .

Somewhere on the 10, east of Blythe, I'm guessing 25 or so miles from the Arizona border.

Yep. I'm positive that the first shot the V1 detected in this video originated from the CHP's rear antenna. I've seen them sit in this exact spot several times and have detected them shooting radar in both directions.

Ah, Blythe. Been there, don't want to revisit. That is a very boring drive. If you keep at a hobby long enough you just might find a way to make some money out of it. I'm just getting into this now and trying to find ways to make some cash to payoff a laser gun and my 9500ix. Would not mind getting a V1 too. But my hobby budget is already stretched out too thin.

All I will say is that numerous issues are being looked into by Escort. It seems that cops are getting smarter and are using extremely short I/O bursts -- probably due to too much information being posted here on this forum.

That's sort of a chicken vs. egg argument. I was the first to post this info here almost a year ago, and it was because cops were already using it, not vice versa.

Interesting video, but how can one know if it was the short burst from the V1 that was detected or could it have been a longer burst that was just ending, but the ESCORT unit was just too far away at that point to detect it?

I realize that you could say that in any event the V1 picked it up and the ESCORT didn't (which is true) but I'm trying to figure out the how much of a problem delay causes vs how much benefit it adds in reducing falsing. I'm basically trying to get a feel for the trade-off in useful additional detection vs usefull additional filtering, which I'm sure is not charted anywhere.

I'm getting the feeling that the delay by itself is not the big issue. But it indicates than most short signals under 0.3 seconds in duration will be ignored by the 9500ix. That is what concerns me. With the GPS being able to lock out locations, and the ability to reduce sensitivity at low speeds, I see little need to filter out the short signals. That is just asking for trouble as in the case of the video. Can't say 100% sure if it was just better sensitivity that resulted in only the V1 picking up the signal in the video, but in either case a short burst of less than 1/3 of a second would likely have resulted in the same outcome. Hopefully this is a programming glitch in the 9500 and not a hardware limitation.
