I received my new mount today. Went straight to the car and tried it out. Here is what I found:
Pros
1. Much more solid/heavier
2. Love the single hand quick release
3. Like the aesthetics of the concealed suction cups ends
Cons
1. Does not work on well with my 9500ix on my particular windshield. My windshield is too sloped at the top where my RD sits, thus I have to pinch the notch section of the mount to the point where it will not allow the ix to go all of the way forward. The fat part or back side of the mount bumps the rounded part on top of my ix thus not allowing it move forward fully. If the unit were flat, I don't think this would pose a problem. When I bend down the tab just enough to allow the ix to go all the way forward and then mount it, I cannot get a level set of the RD and it has a slight upward point.
2. I would like to see a side to side adjustment that allows the yaw of RD to be adjusted for those windshields with a significant curve to help compensate for the slight off axis point of direction. I believe this would give the RD a straighter point of focus.
When I get my X50 back from Escort after its repair I will test it on that unit.
Just for everyone's information, I drive a 2004 Honda Accord EX V6 so this is not a sports car like DJ's which has a greater sloped windshield.
I love the idea but I think it needs a little fine tuning in order for it to work with Escorts Flagship windshield RD. Probably will work well for other units by Belscort!
