    Unhappy Possible 8500 Refurb Problem

I just received my 8500 refurb today and I'm a little worried right off the bat....I know where my normal falses are for my whistler and 9500ix....I went out on a short drive to check out these areas. My understanding is the S7 has greater off axis detection so it would pick the Kband falses up quicker than the M4 9500ix which would alert when I was pretty much on top of the false. Same for whistler....I drove by the same places with the 8500 and it wouldn't even go off unless the RD was pointed right at the false door. This seems like a problem to me. Or am I wrong?

I would say yes. If it's not alerting to other false alerts that you normally get with the other detectors, then you may have a problem. I would call Escort and explain to them your concerns and see if they can do an exchange or take a look at it.

The refurbs are supposed to have a 14 day return test drive policy and longer warranty, I'd say try it until the weekend then send it in on monday for an exchange if it's not proven itself.

I messaged the Escort Seller on Ebay about the problem...Waiting for response...The issue I have is it seems I have seen others on here talk about problems with the refurbs...Whats up with the quality control....Its just a hassle when you wait 4 days for a RD have it is less than a day and now I am looking at at least 10 turn around for me to ship it back, have them look at it and the ship it back to me....What a pain in the arse. Guess thats what I get for trying something cheap! I was always told you get what you pay for!!!!

I have a X50 M4 as a back up to my V1. I have been thinking about selling the x50 and buying a refurb 8500. But if everyone is having problems, then i will just keep my x50. I have had it for 3 years and no problems. Why in the world isn't somebody checking these things before they go out. If your warranty isn't up then i would try and get my money back.

I think there are a lot less problems than people think with them. I think happya$$ just put too much hype out for this detector so when people get their 8500 refurb, it is not as perfect as it is claimed it to be. Don't get me wrong, it is a GREAT detector and I LOVE mine.

I would like to replace my x50 because it will not pick up IO quick bursts and i've read where the 8500 S7 will.

The S7 platform is better at picking up quick trigger than the M4 platform X50. This is true.

I understand the frustration of receiving a defective product, and yours may be defective Blinder-Guy, but there honestly isn't a quality control problem with the 8500s or we would stop offering them. Their return rate for true defects is really very low, well within what is acceptable in the electronics industry for new product. People just tend to be more vocal when they receive a defect while those with perfectly working units typically do not go looking for a place to talk about them.

Please keep in mind that they have been selling very well, this is public information on the bay, and our feedback is almost perfect at 99.9%. If there was a QC problem, that would definitely not be the case. Should someone receive a defect we strive to make things right. This must be rare on the bay because according to our feedback people are blown away by our customer service.

For the record, they have been on sale since the end of 2007, almost 2 years now, RD.net just found out about them recently. There has been thousands sold and thousands of happy customers. Here's hoping that you end up joining them Blinder-Guy

But this is not the EBay and most on Ebay are not as educated as people on this forum so they do not know better....We read horror stories everyday here about Escort. Most people on Ebay do not even realize when they have a defective RD because all they know is it is supposed to go BEEP BEEP every once in a while so they do not complain...People on this forum know how a product should react and are educated on the differences how each RD should perform. Most on Ebay have no clue! If you took those same thousand customers and educated them as members here are maybe the feedback # would be different!
Hopefully my experience will be positive but as of now its not...Wait 4 days for RD, use it less than a day and it has problems, Return RD takes another 4 days, unknown time for turn around, 2 days to return to me..We have at least 10 days there...That's not pleasant to me but may be for someone else...The one nice thing is not paying for shipping.
