    Default SmartCord.... worth it?

I am getting an RX65 soon, and I want to run it with a directwire kit. I was just going to buy the $10 direct-wire kit from Roy, but then I saw the SmartCord direct wire kit ($30) for the RX-65.

My question is this... Is the SmartPlug worth the extra $20 if I am going to be using the Auto-mute feature on the RX65?

Also, is there a difference between the SmartCord (Escort) and SmartPlug (Bel)?

The only difference between the two is that one says Escort and one says Beltronics, they both function the same and can be used interchangeably.

I think it would be worth it. I just wired mine up with regular phone wire, and I do wish that i'd used the smartcord. It'd be really handy when I get a phone call while i'm driving in front of a strip mall.

I don't think the smartcord is worth the extra $20. The automute works just fine while using my directwire hardwire kit without the smart cord.

    I love the smartcord/smartplug!

My RX55 didn't have it and it's a long reach to mute it in my car. When I got my RX65 I was amazed at how convenient it is and how much I use it, esp for those long falses when stuck in traffic.

My girlfriend seems to like the fact she can mute it too, she is none too friendly with my RD [yet] because she says she hasn't seen it actually save me from a ticket [yet!]. Now, if only she had a mute feature. j/k!!!

I'd say it's definately worth it if you have to reach to mute on the detector itself. Plus the Escort one has that nice blue LED.

I like my smartcord. When you mute the RX65 it will remain muted for 18 sec unless you receive another alert on a different band. With the smartcord you can also adjust the volume and bring the RX65 "back to life" after muting. At first I was a little concerned about the mute function, but have found it to be an advantage in the city.

    What about Auto-mute?

How long does it keep the alerts muted?

Automute just reduces the volume after the initial alert. ['to keep you informed but not annoyed' says the manual].

It doesn't kill the audio completely like the smartcord or the mute button on the RD itself.

It's a great feature in itself though.

I use the Auto-mute function on my Pro 58 right now, and I love it. I like the fact that it goes to volume level 1 after 5 seconds of an alert. I wouldn't want it muted all the way. It lasts 20 seconds after an alert ends.

How long does the Auto-mute on the RX65 last?

About the same I'd say, full alert for about 3sec then ramping down to level 1.

Central Canada or central California, ES13Raven? Cos they got some damn long straight roads in Central Canada! An RX65 is just what you need out there. [was over there last year]

***edit: seems more like 3 seconds full alert before ramping down***
