I have an 8500 that’s about 8+ years old that I had refurbished 2 years ago and it woks fine.
The 8500 uses the S7 antenna which is regarded as one of Escorts most sensitive antennas. However because its older technology its more susceptible to "service required" messages, referb or not.
just installed mine and programmed it to my likings for now...started up perfectly fine and looks brand new...will be testing once it stops raining..
I bought mine around a month ago from the Escort Ebay store. So far so good. It has great range, and detection.
Fwiw. I always take it off of the "new" Escort mount when I'm going in a store. To keep it out of the sun, and to keep any thief's eyes from seeing something of value.
Again so far so good. I'm pleased with it.
I got an x50 refurb and the first one laser falsed to no end from the moment I plugged it in. I sent it back and received a replacement right away and it's been working great ever since. Very happy w/ the purchase - I've had a couple of solid saves from it already.
I'm also please w/ Escort's customer service in getting me a replacement unit right away.
I'm very happy with mine so far. I've had it about 3 weeks. I can't say that I've had a true save per se, but it's picked up LEO a few times (including once that would've been a save had we been going faster, but we had our 2 bikes on the roof rack and weren't going all that fast).
And, as others have said about their refurbs, other than the price and shorter warranty period, I wouldn't know that it's not a BSN (Brand Spankin' New) unit.
I justg got my hardwire kit so that's a project for this weekend. I had been mounting it high, but with the coiled cord hanging down, so it'll be nice to have a clean install.
took mine out for about 15 min in a drive and its a TON more sensitive than my cobra i love it...
I got my 8500 from Escort's eBay store and I really like it and have had no problems with it so far. At best, I have gotten 2-3 miles of K and Ka band radar detection over small hills on mostly straight roads which is pretty impressive. I have X band disabled so I can't comment on that range but I am sure it is good based on the K and Ka band results. I didn't like the mount that came with it so I bought a visor mount off Ebay which is way better. I also didn't like the coily SmartCord so I got a direct wire kit from Ebay as well. I have had no error messages pop up and no issues with it yet. I have more confidence in this 8500 than I do with my Whistler XTR-690SE because the Whistler reports X band alerts as K band even though X band is disabled on it.
The Escort 8500 is no Valentine One but it gives me confidence, is well built, and well worth it for the price I paid.
Saved me 3 times last night driving....one was a Ka up hill around the corner and i still picked it up 7 seconds before i saw the cop...im impressed
