    Default newbie performance question

Hey guys i just got a x50. My 12v insert is kind of far from my windshield and will stretch the power cord too far. So i bought an extension for it. I was wondering if this will effect the performance, and also if the direct wire kit will improve performance. I didn't think it would effect performance because it's just power but i need some other opinions. And one more thing i was wondering if you guys put POP mode on and what mode you put your x50 on etc...

    Thanks.

i dont have an x50 but i know that there is no performance difference if you use an extention for your power cord. i use one time to time to mount my detector high above my rear view mirror and the performance is the same either way

A cigarette lighter extension should deliver the same amount of power to your X50. The same goes for the hard-wire kit, as long as your car is provinding enough juice.

I suggest you do a search on X50 PoP mode on this site and read the other threads, a lot of good info. There are also many threads on hardwiring the X50.

Should be no difference, use the X50's voltage meter function to check for any loss.

Performance will be the same. IMHO, the hardwire kit is the only way to go. It makes for a very clean and solid install if you use your detector on a daily basis. What a shame it would be if you did not get an alert because the plug worked out of the cigarette lighter socket

I turn POP off on all my detectors currently. I may re-think this if POP ever becomes widely used. The problem is with POP on the detector does what it should, alerts to every momentary scrap of radar, which of course results in more overall alerts. (not fair to really call them false)
