    Default Newbie here...

I just ordered the RX65 to replace my Bel 980. The 980 is dead. I got 3 years out of it, which is longer than I normally get out of a RD, before they become unreliable. I also have 2) 985's and 1) 8500 and a Blinder M-20.

Ive been using Bels and Escorts for years, but I havent had much luck in getting more than 2-3 years out of one. Is there any real improvement in the RX65 compared to the 980? What kind of life expectancy do most of you get from your detectors?

Well, UPS dropped my RX65 off today. It only took 3 days. All of my cars are hardwired, so all I had to do is plug it in.

On my way home I get hit twice, back to back, by a LEO shooting laser near my house. This is very, very common here. They love speed traps. The RD was on it and screaming. Not that it does any good but I knew he was shooting me. Two blocks later, I pass his hiding spot as hes targeting traffic at that same spot.
Good thing I wasnt going too fast for the LEO because my Blinder never made a peep at either hit. This thing worked pretty well 4 months ago, but now I cant even trust it as a laser detector.
I guess Ill have my neighbor shoot it (hes a cop), and see if I can find a problem.

Ok. My neighbor doesnt have a gun in his car, so he radios a buddy that does. Buddy shows up and 5 minutes later he is shooting me down the street. He locks me in more than a dozen times. Blinder alerts me only 3 times and jammed his gun only once of the 3. He got a reading on his second trigger pull. This thing is toast in only 4 months.

Between all the Bels dieing and now the Blinder, I think Im done playing this game.

I'd check the aim on the Blinder heads and make sure they aren't blocked or dirty before writing off the Blinder. It could also be something simple like a loose wire to one of the transponders.

From what I've read, Blinders are pretty reliable if installed correctly.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Thanks for the tips. I did check all wiring, connections, ground, voltage, etc. The heads are clean and they "looked" like they were still aimed correctly. I'll go back and check my aim and alignment again.

You need to read the poll of all the problems people have with belscort. NEARLY 50%!!!!
