Cold weather, Beltronics/Escort
I know most have suspicions that the heat has adverse effects on Beltronics/Escorts. What about cold weather? We are heading into winter and I was just wondering.........got my RX65 in the summer so I havent seen the way they behave in the cold yet. Should I be taking it out of the car every night? Do you guys in the North East leave yours in the car with no ill effects in the winter?

I leave my x50 up all year 'round, and haven't noticed any of the ill effects that others have attributed to temperature. "Cold" rarely harms electronics, anyway. If mine dies, it will probably be from the summer heat. I wouldn't worry about the wintertime.

I leave mine up year round as well, but I will tell you this. Anyone with an LCD on a cellphone, or someone who has left their iPod in their car when it was freezing outside, know that it has some major effects on the ability to display anything. Cold has a damaging effect on electronics...

Cold doesn't affect most electronics (LCD displays are an exception, since they're liquid crystal and they can freeze), but moisture condensation is something to watch out for, especially if bringing a cold piece of electronics into a warm environment.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

Working in radio for years I know that any electronics that use a crystal can be affected too now that I think about it. Usually a crystal needs to be on frequency and in order to do that has to be at a certain temp. Some pieces of equipment have an "oven" in there around the crystal to raise it to the proper temperature. Detectors are an RF device so I wonder if it affects that at all. ................Having said that........as long as you guys say that you have left it in your car all winter with no problems then that is all I really need to know. It is probably better to leave it out there rather than bring it from the cold into the warmth and worry about condensation etc. (not like bringing it from the heat to AC).

The only thing I've had trouble with in the cold is getting the suction cups to stick to my window until it warms up.
Would traffic tickets be the first casualty of police labour action if they were truly an effective safety measure?
Ever been stopped for anything but speeding? Takes too much effort/thought and not enough revenue to catch the truly dangerous drivers.
