I disagree, I simply don't like windshield mounts, I hate $hit stuck to my windshield, it's a distraction to me and suction cups -- well they suck. The only reason I have an STi-R is performance and in-dash look, I could care less if it's spectre proof. I would rather have a non-stealth in-dash remote mount with better performance and GPS with more bang for buck then stealth.
    Different needs for different products.

I see how you're super picky about your car - I'm the same way (i. e. picky about my car.) I like windshield mounted units though. I need to be able to transfer them from car to car.

I'm not particularly picky about my car, I care less how it looks, the windshield mounts just annoy the hell out of me for some reason.

I'm the exact opposite: to me, having to put things up and take them down every time I get into or out of the car is a major hassle. What eventually happens is I get tired of doing all that work, so I end up leaving the stuff at home more and more often. This is why I spent the extra money and bought a factory nav system instead of a (superior) Garmin unit, and why I have a 9500ci - at least that way the things will actually be in the car and hooked up when I need them instead of sitting on the shelf back at my house.
