Is my Escort 8500 possessed?

In the past week my 8500 has been giving off consistant Ka band false alerts for an extended period of time, then it started doing self calibration somtimes 3 or 4 times in the span of 10 minutes. At one point is said "service required"

Any idea what's causing this irratic behavior and how to get it back in working order? If i need to have it serviced, where do i need to send it?

I don't think it's under warrenty. I bought it on ebay about a year ago.

I would try to reset it by pressing all three buttons while powering it up. I would also check that it is getting constant power from the vehicle or better yet try it in a second vehicle.

The older 8500's with the S7 antenna got that message more than the newer ones. I had one that gave me that message and sent it in, and has worked flawlessly since.

It was a pretty common occurrence in my case ...

Broken 8500's and X50's

I think their build quality has improved greatly over the years ... never had a problem with my latest X50 or 9500ix.
