I hate to say this to you: (As its not really an 'answer' to your question).

I think ANY detector (or any piece of electronic equipment baking on your Windshield) is:

    A) Bad for it, and will decrease its life-span no matter what brand.
    B) Is inviting crooks to steal hundreds or thousands of dollars off your windshield.

Ever since the factory freak had a break in, my rd and bracket comes with me when I'm not in the car.

Redline is painted black, meaning it will get hotter baking in the sun than a 8500 series.

I'd take it down for that reason, as well as theft. Or do a stealth visor mount.

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

What quality issues. I had a 8500 mounted in OK heat, then the X50 in OK heat both for 4 years with no problems. How long does your cell phone last? Damn, a 700$ TV is lucky to last 5 years in this day and age.

I have literally owned dozens of 8500s and 8500 X50s, never an issue. The "quality" problem is exaggerated because of the sheer number of them on the road.

Leave a V1 in a parked car that is 150º+ and in full sun?? Shame on you.

I agree. No reason to mount redline on the windshield. Mount it on the Visor and it will be out of view from crooks and the sun. Even the 9500ix works fine on the visor or headliner. Takes afew extra minutes to lock GPS but it's worth not cooking it.
