Default Odd Frequency, MPH Bee III in Florida??

I received a steady alert today on my RX-65 in Tech mode with an alert of 33.700 it was 100MHz off of the well-known 33.8 of the BEE III with POP mode. As far as I know, I don't believe we have POP mode in Florida yet but I have received POP alerts then immediately received a Ka signal after. Also, when driving home about 100 feet from my apartment an LEO was parked on a driveway hidden behind a building wall and I saw him and applied the brakes (I was going about 33-34mph in a 30 anyways ) and immediately then my radar detector displays POP and then silences itself. No other traffic nearby and I drive this route every day (being my way home) and it never falses.

Is it possible for the MPH to be present in Florida, or for it to drify 100MHz off? Most frequencies I get are 34.750 or 35.5 in the next county.

What could be the explanation for the apparent "POP" use?

According to Roy, "various communities in the state of Florida have all signed up for the POP radar bandwagon":

Other possibilities include: junk detector nearby causing a POP false, or 33.7GHz freq. Even MPH Ka units that don't have POP such as the Python are on 33.8 GHz...

That was posted by member PHILBERT, also a Florida resident. Notice the 33.704. Very close. Might have even been the same one.

The real question here is - who is right (the radar or the detector). I'm really beginning to wonder about occasional screw-ups with TECH mode display. A couple have reported hits at 33.200, which is 200MHz outside the police Ka band, and 600MHz from the nearest known Ka radar, so apparently it screws up now and then. Seems that the odd frequencies show up more at very close range too.

Also, one thing you didn't mention - was the 33.700 ever visually verified, or was it just an alert on your detector? I *have* seen a false at exactly 33.700 on my RX65 once.

somewhat related question for Professor Jim, since he's posting on this thread. I know that Ka radars are supposed to be +/- 100MHz from their assigned freq. Do the radars with a built in "self test" like the newer MPH models give the officer any sort of alert when it drifts outside that?

I would have to guess no.
I don't see any mention of that in the manuals for my newer MPH models. I am pretty sure all the self-test does is generate an internal doppler frequency and then makes sure the circuit interprets it as the correct speed for that freq.

Also I don't know the exact function of the "USA" mode (although speculation says it scans only frequencies of interest) and my radar detector happened to be switched to USA mode with POP mode off.

Although I did not visually verify a source or LEO, the frequency strength increased slightly and decreased for about .4 of a mile or so, I suspected possibly an LEO behind me. But I have no confirmation, Two commercial vehicles nearby, one passenger further behind, so the odds (to me) of either of them having an RD is minimal, but then again it's all non-concrete facts right 8)

Hopefully when the GoL's find out how AutoScan and USA/INTL modes work we will find out a lot more about the RX-65

Well, there really isn't a lot of speculation left about USA mode. We've pretty well determined that it scans
    33.700-33.900
    34.600-34.800
    35.400-35.600

    Autoscan on the other hand......

Confirmed as of 11/25/05, witness a FHP using POP mode while in motion, turned around a followed him for a bit, and yes he was definately POP'n  . I was hoping we didn't have BEEs but I guess leaving POP on and actually paying attention to it this time would be good 8)
