Default Why buy from a dealer??

Ok so I know that buying a bel or escort from a unautherized dealer like off ebay or something to that effect is said to be bad but I dont have to spend $340.00 for the blue display. I got this price from radar roy. Whats wrong with saving money?? Can you explain this to me cause I am in a tight money situation right now and my radar detedctor I have now is driving me crazy with falses falses falses!!! What benefit is it to the consumer to pay the inflated price?? I am not trying to say go buy stuff off Ebay cause you dont always know what your going to get, this is a personal question and for my benefit only!!!!!
    Thanks

    You answered it right there.

Plus you will not get the warranty from the manufacturer in most, if not all cases.

Why, here are just a couple reasons

1: Remanufactured units. There are several companies that remanufacture products that are defective. These companies are prohibited from selling these units in the USA, so they sell their wares to consumers in Mexico, Brazil....

Some "unauthorized dealers" get these and sell as new

2: Been several documented cases where dealers get new cases, replace the guts with an older model and sell as new

Think about it. I can buy cases of radar detectors from "E-Bay dealers" BELLOW my wholesale price. How can they sell them so cheap??? BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT FROM THE FACTORY!

Yes but if you know what to look for when your dealing with Ebay stores. You can be reasured that you are going to get what you payed for plus their are companies like Pay Pal that protect the consumer.
What if the company says they are an authorized dealer, cause its not just individual people who sell on ebay, Stores like radarroys sell stuff on Ebay to expand their market place. I was just saying that so they dont edit my post I am trying to fair and realistic.

Well lets put it this way, if a Escort or Bel product is being sold on Ebay, it is NOT from an authorized dealer. Both companies ban their authorized dealers from selling on Ebay..

Not to mention that Roy is the reason we have this board! The guy will take care of any problems you will have...can't say that for EBAY.

Simple. When you pull your $250 X50 out of the box and find that it's actually a 7500S (which only retails for $225 or so nowadays), all you can do is complain to the dealer (who will inevitably tell you that you didn't read the item description closely enough and therefore it's your fault) and leave negative feedback.

If Roy (or any other reputable dealer, for that matter) sells you a defective unit or sends you the wrong model, he'll correct the error and back up what he sold you, instead of saying "too bad" and responding to your negative feedback with "needs to learn how to read the item descriptions."

Not to mention that, as Roy pointed out, many eBay dealers are less than reputable. I've heard (unsubstantiated to this point, but very believeable) stories of huge eBay dealers with massive feedback files taking advantage of people with little to no feedback who hadn't been on eBay for long by just not sending them the product they ordered. After all, when the negative feedback starts flying, who are the shoppers going to believe, someone who has a feedback rating of 3 with 1 negative, or someone who has a feedback rating of 10,000 with a few negatives from people who are no longer members and had low feedback ratings to begin with?

You might find a great deal on eBay, but with detectors, the odds of getting screwed are much higher than the odds of getting a huge bargain. I'd only get a detector on eBay as a backup (if a low-end Bel or something were to come on the market at a low price, low enough that there's really nothing to lose), or just for fun (i.e., if one of the original Escorts were to show up with a low serial number, or if I ever decide that I want to be the proud owner of a RMR "detector").

    Default Proof...

I asked an EBay dealer, who sells RX65s and X50s for really cheap, about the units he sells. He has been an Ebay dealer since '99 and has a 3000+ feedback score of 99.8%. His EBay page boasts a "3 year exchange warranty" and the units are "Brand New, Factory Sealed" and "We do not sell any refurbished or used units, all of our products are 100 percent brand new, with the latest upgrades" etc.

I told him that I knew an Escort/Beltronics authorized dealer, and he said these prices are below his wholesale prices and the units can't be brand new. I asked if his units were actually re-manufactured, refurbished, 2nds or grey market. He responded:
it depends, i get my units from many different sources some times i get my hands on new items, while most of the time i sell refurbished items, so i guess the answer to your question is that most of these units are refurbs. but they work just like new and if there is a problem with it i will exchange it for another one.

Well at least this dealer is being honest with you and now you can see why there is NO WARRANTY from the factory!
