    Default New Escort RD user.

Just got my first RD today after trolling around these boards for a while. I live in DE now, and I am constantly driving back/forth on the PA turnpike to western PA (Pittsburgh). I got myself a Escort 8500 X50 after reading on these forums and figuring it would suit my needs. Also, lots of folks seem to think it is a great RD for the money. I have a Subaru WRX. Few questions:

Should i mount this high and in the middle of the car?

    What about the dangling cord?

Anything that would be important for a new guy to know? What do you wish you knew when you first started out using your RD?

    Hard wire it.

High is good. Visor works for me.

Definitely hard wire it in, it will look much nicer and cleaner. It will also leave that important cigarette lighter open for other electronics.

Those other electronics... any interference from NAVI systems or SIRIUS radio?

No, not typically. You would get interference from another RD though if you decide to get one. GPS and Sirious will work fine.

Some GPS screens will false the laser on some detectors. Make sure it's not "looking" at it. Even if it does not false it may effect it's response time.

I have my 8500 x50 mounted to the glass just high enough to clear the wipers.
My theory is that this will give me better laser coverage. I drive an H3 so I am up higher to start with. I am very happy with my 8500. It has saved me several times. Have fun

I would mount high and wire it into the mirror with a stealth cord.

It's not just height over ground, it's height above a huge ground plane, your hood !! Laser is useless, especially in a huge all chrome box such as as a hummer. Lidar LEO must love hummers.

Think of the antenna coming out of the Radar detector as a cone spreading in all directions. The less obstruction to that cone the better. Your hood clips the cone. It's actually an elongated balloon shape.
