    Default Re: Smartcord Red light

Hey guys, I am having a technical difficulty with my smartcord.
The smartcord red light constantly stays on for some reason. Also, when the detector is turned off, the green light is constantly on as well. The smartcord mute button still works perfectly fine. It has something to do with the detector however, because when i use the same smartcord in another x50, it works fine. Anyone know what could be causing this? Detector still works fine, and all programming options work. I usually have the detector hardwired, but when i go on long road trips in other people's car, i usually take my detector and use it. I tried resetting the detector also, but no luck.

    Default Smartcord Red light

    SCjohn,

Sounds to me like you may want to get another smart cord. If you have the same problem with a new cord, it's your RD. I haven't personally experienced that.

nah, it's not the smartcord. already tried it on another x50, and works fine. damn, i wonder if i might have shorted something inside the detector when i hard-wired it to my car...

More than likely, you fried a transistor inside the detector (possibly more?).

Want to know how I know? Well, I had made a "data cable" for my RX-65 so that I could record alert data to my PC (just like my Valentine One software). Well, I did something stupid and mis-wired the cable, and then I got the exact same thing with my smartcord that you do. I opened the unit up and there was a transistor with a visible burn mark in it.

I assume that it it probably a common switching transistor, but I havent bothered trying to replace it or anything.

jimbonzzz - thx for the reply! your probably right...

Radar 4 Ever - it all depends. real world conditions range for radar detection, anywhere from 1/2 mile to 3+ miles. all depends.
