According to Escort my newly upgraded 9500ix may contain a new firmware that allows it to indicate RLC's and SC's based on my approach to the marked area. The purpose is to avoid the notification of locations that are not specific to my direction of travel. In Phoenix there are a great number of these types of locations. There are locations in the Metro area that have cameras for both directions of travel and they are sometimes separated by as much as 1/2 mile or even more.
By using the approach method the RD will not notify of the SC on the opposite side of the highway, it will only notify of the location that is in my direction of travel. Trapster, when loaded on a GPS, will indicate locations on either side of the road no matter what direction you are traveling. This can cause confusion as to the actual location of the RLC's/SC's
Now on to the bug:
This bug could be only associated with the Tucson, Arizona area or it could rear its ugly little head in your location. There is no guarantee that it is not specific to my RD but given my testing and the actions of the RD I doubt it.
I have tested the actions of the RD in multiple locations around my area and have noted that in locations that have RLC's or SC's in multiple directions the Northbound direction does not indicate. When I have made the effort to mark the Northbound location it will not, in spite of multiple efforts, ever indicate.
At one of the locations I have experienced an even more troubling event. At the SC location in Tucson known as Swan Rd it notifies only Southbound. I turned around and marked the Northbound direction. Afterwords I did a U-turn to test the marked location settings and found that I had lost both the previously working Southbound and the faulty Northbound indications. Marking that Northbound SC effectively made the SC disappear from the 9500ix all together.
I have reported this issue in its earliest stages to Escort and they have stated that their vendor is taking a look at the Tucson locations fairly soon.
My purpose in making this post is not to put the device in a bad light, it is only to make others aware of this situation as it could be happening in other areas around the country. Take the time to verify that your factory marked "Defender" (Trinity) locations are working in all directions.
In the interim I will be running Trapster in this vehicle to supplement the 9500ix indications so I don't miss anything.
Lucky for me, in the area where I do most of my driving there are only a total of 16 RLC's/SC's but I spend a fair amount of time in Phoenix and this kind of issue could be very costly for me if happens to me there.
I will update as I learn more information and I hope to have Escort address it here as well.
Please advise here if you are experiencing similar issues with your 9500ix.
Before you ask I have no idea what Firmware is in the RD nor do I know how to find out. If anyone knows how to show me let me know!
