Default question on 9500ix red light & speed cameras capabilities

    To all 9500xi owners,

A quick question. With the database on red light and speed cameras, when or how far/close does the 9500ix warn you? Without the database, I know that a regular RD gives warning on speed cameras inconsistently - meaning some far and some up close.

    thanks!

The 9500ix will alert to red light and speed cameras from 250 feet away or 10 seconds of warning depending on your speed.

A normal radar detector will give no warning to a fixed position speed camera. They do not use radar or laser to measure speed.

Mobile speed camera vans typically use low powered radar that is aimed at an angle which makes them difficult to detect at a distance.

I have one of these and have been using it in St Louis (lots of RLCs) and Phoenix (lots of Speed Cameras). The alerts are about 10 seconds in advance, which is a meaningful distance on the highway. I am getting alerts around 500 feet or more on highway, which is perfect timing that you don't have to slow down to early, but you get enough notice that you don't need to slam the brakes.

What I am experiencing is this:
    1) Alert goes off with audio warning: "Speed Camera"
    2) Display shows arrow pointing in direction of camera and there is a countdown of feet to target.
    3) The approach counts down on the display 400 feet, 300 feet, 200 feet, 100 feet.
    4) There is an announcement "You have reached your marked location"
    5) The display says "End" which indicates you have cleared the trap.

With the introduction of direction specific alerts this is a fantastic feature. The C50 offers more, but the 9500ix alert is everything you really need.

Yes I experienced that in St Louis. Hasn't occurred everywhere though.
