    Default Weird laser falses? (8500)

Twice now, I've had a laser alert - which I think is false - in an odd spot. I'm curious what you guys think it is.

Both alerts occurred in the same spot in the office park where I work. I couldn't find a LEO either time. Not that it's impossible for me to miss one, but there really aren't good places to hide in this particular spot. And both times, if there'd been a LEO shooting laser, I probably would have got the chance to meet him

Also, it's in a quieter part of the office park where I just don't think they would sit - not that productive, and probably not a place that would generate speed complaints from anyone.

There is an interstate about 1500 feet away and running parallel to the road in the office park, with grassy field in between. I suppose I could have been right in line with a LEO's trap on the interstate, but it sure seems like a coincidence. (although that's probably my hypothesis at this point).

There's nothing in the immediate vicinity that I can imagine causing an alert. It's pretty empty. And I was the only car around at the time - so no Infiniti LED brakelights causing a false.

Oh, and these 2 alerts are the only times anything like this has happened. I think they might be the only laser alerts I've received, but that doesn't seem unreasonable given the LEOs I've observed. Radar detection seems fine, knock on wood, so I don't think it's my RD.

    Any thoughts?

    Neon signs?

A number of things can set it off. Cars with radar cruise control, infrared remote controls, Nav. displays, laser pointers, neon signs, reflections of any of these all can trigger a false. Unlikely that it is a defective RD.

Yeah, I'm pretty certain it's not the RD. None of the usual suspects is nearby, so I guess it'll remain a mystery for a while. Oh well, it gives me something a little different to think about on the way to work...

Is there an airport in the area?

Yeah, as a matter of fact, just past the interstate is the airport.

I think there's something there that gives me a consistent radar false on a different road, but I hadn't even thought of something at the AP that would be behind these 2 laser falses.

I have always gotten falses around airports on the 8500 and 9500. There is some debate as to what causes it. You can search around this forum and find out more.

Not to thread jack but if my onkyo remote for my receive can set off laster on my x50 shouldn't it set it off every time? I'm seeing the opposite where it would only random set it off. Like maybe every 1-2 mins of me pressing the remote it would set off the detector.

I THINK that your detector is looking for around 905nm like a laser gun transmits. What is your remote? Is it like a tv remote, if so those are usually closer to 940... so it could have a hard time detecting it? but im just guessing!
