I am curious with the people who own it, anyone have it mounted super close the headliner? if so how is the satellite signal?

Mine is right next to the RVM and just below the headliner. No issues for me.
Im talking more about using a visor clip..........
Mine is visor clipped directly to headliner. Clip actually touches windshield. Some days it may lock in 30 seconds other days it may take 5 minutes (because once you get moving and it has not locked it's harder for it to lock while moving). Overall I think it runs fine. I do this with two 9500ix's in two cars. On the way to work I don't notice it. But on the way home I'm like 1 minute from a bunch of falses and they won't be locked out because GPS most days, has not locked yet.
It's worth it keeping out view from LEO or someone that want it. I never take it down.
I have taken my 9500i in my house to update it and even in doors it would lock on to the satellite in about 20-30 seconds.
You need to try that after it sat turned off for 12 hours. I can almost guarantee after 12 hours (i.e. over night) it won't lock indoors in 20-30 seconds (although being stationary does help). 9500 also has a battery in it that keeps a fix for a while after you turn it off. Once that runs out then lock time will get slower.
There is no question a clear sky view will improve GPS lock.
Miy 9500ix came back from repair and the box was opened in my house. After loading the new Defender DB It locked in about 3 minutes. I have 4 floors and I was on the second floor.
It has very good reception but as far as the headliners goes mine is hard mounted to the RVM
