I agree with you, and I feel bad for some that think people are saying they are using it wrong. They are not, it simple plug and play.
However there are inherent risks with anything, just like speeding.
No one should expect to speed with countermeasures and not get a ticket, just as someone using a feature that locks out radar and not expect to get a ticket.
It’s as simple as don’t speed in areas where you have lock outs, or don’t use a lock out feature in High Risk areas. Its at least location manageable.
I run in the "auto" mode and on occasion have had a single hit "stored" message.
However, it will unstore the location eventually if no further signals detected (assuming it was really stored in the first place).
In any event, I really like the auto learn feature. It may have a few quirks here and there but for the most part it really does the job for me. I'd buy another 9500ix in a heartbeat if my current one died.
AutoLearn was tested and refined for over 2 years. Nothing can be done to eliminate the issues, its just the nature of what radar is. Some cool things can be added, but it wont fix the issue at hand and probably never will.
For example if you have 2 glasses, both filled 1/2 way with water and you pour one into the other how can you tell the difference?
As I said I do not know their firmware but I would be willing to bet $$$ that human interaction could be added to the approval process. I would be willing to bet that the screen could also be programmed to indicate the number of times the RD presumes to see the same signal at the same time.
This is something they can address, It may be that they choose to wait and use this as a marketing opportunity and make it a 9550ix or a 9600ix.
It can happen.
There will be plenty of consumers that will buy the product and never see any of the things we see. We are a particular group and very aware of our surroundings and out CMs.
NOTE TO ALL 9500ix owners:
You need to take advantage of the Tune up that is offered by ESCORT. Unless you know for a fact that you have the latest and greatest FW (which only Escort can tell you) you can miss some cameras. You may also have a FW that does not have directionality.
I would suggest this is a must do.
I had an issue that was only resolved by ESCORT adding the new FW in late October. They committed to having that FW out to the public very quickly but that has not been the case. My contact can not advise as to when the FW will be released or why it has not yet been. Because of this you need to send it in for the FW.
I hope I don't get in trouble for posting this link but I could find no other way to point people to it.

Trust me this is a must do and you may find other features that will work better after the tune up
That's what it feels like to me too. As far as Autolearn goes I don't think there is much changes in firmware. I have both the earliest and lastest 9500ix.
I also agree there may be limits of what they can do by the nature of radar. But they can certainly improve the software.
1) Add minimum amount of time between encounters before lock out (user settable).
2) Manual Approval (Also user setting able, I don't want manual approval myself).
3) Allow user to raise number of occurances needed to lockout or Unlock.
4) Announce Unlocks (optional parameter) this would give folks more comfort that it works. Quietly unlocking is my biggest concern because I don't know if it ever does and I don't have time to watch and remember while driving.
5) Add viewing Auto and Manual Lockouts on Google Maps with Detector tools and allow user to selectively remove them.

I would love to see this.
From another thread I started
http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...scort-rep.html
This could be a simple software add on.
When you mark a location you get 4 choices, Speed Camera, Red Light Camera, Speed Trap, and Other.
It would be nice if there was a 5th choice of "Police Station" and let it be added to the community data base.
When you are going through a small town it would be nice to know where they are, some don't have signage and they tend to sneak up on you. It's not a speed trap but nice to know where they are.
Answer from same thread From Escort radar Rep. (Only part of it)
voyager7, Thanks for the suggestion but I doubt that we will add police stations to the Defender database.
We have just begun GPS integrated radar detectors. The feature set and tools will only grow from here. We have some cool things up our sleeves, but they will take time to develop. Thanks for taking the time to let us know what you would like for us to add though
AutoLearn isn't absolutely perfect, but after using it and the manual TrueLock, I have much more faith in AutoLearn's ability to discriminate falses from threats. I am too busy driving, texting, eating and reading the morning paper to keep track of which false is on what frequency or how the multiple false sources ramp up and down and where. IMO both are far better than a non-GPS detector however. Whenever it alerts in a learned area, I check my speed. 99% of the time it's a threat.
