Default Extreme Case of Buyers Remorse

Ok so I just purchased an X50 blue from Roy, and I knew going into my purchase it had its share of problems, but I'm seeing more and more cause for concern. I also know the V1 has its share of problems too but after seeing the many recent issues with the X50 I am rethinking my purchase. I also purchased by phone with Roy and I did not know about the restocking fee until I just researched returns on his web-site. I wonder if he will make an exception.

So the reason I am having buyers remorse is because of the new video showing the x50 responding to 50% of instant on encounters, all the Service Required posts in the Belscort forum, and my confidance in my 300 something dollar purchase is diminished. Maybe you guys can help me, I know Outrun is a fan of the X50 but what about all this chatter. Sometimes this board makes me more confused than informed.

All the service required messages are from older revisions. As for seeing it only respond to instant on 50% of the time.. where in the world did you get that?

Around my city, they use instant on K and KA band, it hasnt failed to alert me yet...

Dont be worried, putting up 300$ for a detector is a hard thing to do.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, I'm sure you're getting a very good radar detector. You haven't even tried it out yet, and you're already letting other people whom you don't even know sway you simply with praise for another detector.

Just remember, opinions are like a$$holes...everybody has one. I really hate to say this, but some of the Valentine users in these forums tend to be a bit "cult like" in a way at times.....enough to make you question whether or not it is really as good as they seem to think it is, or if they have just hopped on the bandwagon to praise, praise, praise while offering little to no critical commentary what so ever. From everything I've read, Valentine's customer support is better than Belscort, and in today's society where customer service has seemingly disappeared, that's probably a big reason for much of the more favorable opinions and attitudes from V1 users compared to Bel/Escort users....because the performance is fairly comparable according to the unbiased professionals who test this stuff for a living and don't have somewhat of a rooting interest in either product. So I wouldn't worry about it, you're still getting a very good detector....

Your X50 is fine. I've been using one for four months now, and it's never once missed an alert that I could visually confirm--and the cops here love instant-on radar.

As for the Self-Cal and Service Required messages, don't lose sleep over it. Unplug your detector before turning the car off, and plug it in 10-15 seconds after the car is turned on. Remove it from the windshield and put it in its case and under a seat when you leave your car--or even better, bring it in with you if you have a place to put it. Heat and power surges are the two things that can kill an X50 rev. 5 in a hurry. The general rule of merchandise applies: the better care you take of it, the better care it will take of you.

No need to panic. I've heard about all the problems, and I still swear by my X50. The missed instant-on usually entails a specific set of circumstances that you're unlikely to ever encounter (something like a 0.8 second on-to-off cycle), so don't sweat it.

Also some of the problems with the instant-on reaction with the X50 were due to the gun being too close to the detector (only a couple feet away) and causing the circuitry to overload. That doesn't happen in the real world.

I would not sweat it, once you get your toy and plug it in, you will be happy, Roy would not do you wrong, he would not sell you a sub par detector, remember the top three are so close in comparison, it sucks, one has an edge over the other and another over another in another regard and etc., there is no clear winner. As for problems, V1 has their problems, people posted missed alerts as well. $300 is alot, but seriously you have no need to doubt your purcahse. And about that instant on test (if we are all talking about the same one) I also read that it was performed up close and was discovered that when they simply retested 50 feet or more the X50 performed just fine.

It seems like every week, I am changing my opinions which one I am contemplating to purcahesing from Roy. One week it is X50, the next it is rx65, then sometimes I feel I am getting drawn in by that V1, then back to the X50. If I was dropping $300 I would be flipping out, just the way I am. Years ago I got very lucky, I did some crude researching and picked out the best that suited my requirments, I picked the Bel985, later I learned I picked a very reputable detector. Now after finding this forum, I would not doubt the feeling that your feeling.

You in good hands, just remember, don't rely on your detector %100, in the real world, any detector can "fail", you have to have your bunny in front of you, and watch the road ahead. For me it is a whole new driving experience, no more profiling cars and braking just to find it is not a trooper on the highway. This alone has saved me a quarter tank of gas traveling. Just a better relaxed driving experience.

You have the X50, alot of people envy you.

As someone who has both a V1 and a X50, I would say you made a fine choice. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend either one.

As others have said, the missed instant-on only occurs under specific circumstances that are unlikely to occur in the real world, and is caused either by overloading (gun too close to detector) or if it's a really brief trigger (where the anti-falsing filters it out).

Also, if you get SelfCal or Service Required, chances are you'll get it within the first month or two, and Roy will take care of you. My first unit showed SelfCal and Roy exchanged it for me. My second one has been flawless.

    That is very true....

Also, no LEO is going to "short-trigger" a Stalker in an instant-on ambush situation anyway. There is no point to it if he is that close. He will want to be sure and get a good reading, otherwise he will not have you.

Don't let that video scare you....

Cult like, Hmmm I wouldn't say that because cults are brain washed people and just beacue after using and owning a V1 most people are very pleased. I would rather have people try both units and return the one they dont like as much. That makes it real easy and also will make an informed decision. Not a cult like brain washed idea.
