Default X50 not alerting to laser

Recently I've driven through two laser speed traps - my speeds were in the sensibly low range (maybe 5 over) so I didnt get pulled, yet I'm very sure i was targeted. Both times I was in the closest lane and the LEO definitely had the lidar pointed at my car. Neither time I drove through the traps did my x50 give me an alert (Rev5). I drive a 2001 dark blue jetta vr6 and had my detector mounted level and low on my windscreen. I was wondering if there is anything I'm missing or if I should go ahead and get a ZR3.

BTW - This really didn't bother me 'till my roommate who has a cobra xrs9700 in his mustang got targeted by the same leo and not only did his detector alert laser but it told him it was an LTI Ultra-lyte.

I was also possibly wondering if there were any way to test mounting position and detector response with a household item. Maybe an infrared remote of some sort. Would an auto focus system on a camera work? I'm pretty sure that relies on infrared distance measurement to adjust the focus.

    - thanks

Well, some detectors can be alerted by some remotes, but it's not going to help much. The beam width and rate of spread is much different than real lidar.

Bel/Escort products aren't the best with laser. I've been targeted with my RX65 running and didn't get an alert. Cobra products seem to be better for laser in many situations.

The ZR3 is a very good jammer, and if you deal with laser a lot, it might be a good way to go.

With my experiance, cobra laser sensitivity is right below v1's.... Cobra has it down, as v1 has it.

If your area users laser often, a laser jammer is the BEST way to go.., a zr3 according to the GOL tests does a damn good job - the stalker.

My blinder has saved me at LEAST 50 times. I just recently got a ticket, but 50 to 1 isnt a abd ratio as all, if you have alead foot as I do...

Here in HK they always use LTI ultralytes. Before when i had my X50, every single time i was targeted it alerted. There was never an instance when it didn't beep.

I really didn't expect that with the difference in radar performance between the cobra and the x50 that the x50 would be the loser in a laser competition. Who knew...

I've been very happy with my x50 ... but since I drive 4 hours on I-75 every few weeks and invariably almost poop my pants every time I see that FHP camaro with the laser gun dangling out of its window, I think its time for active countermeasures. Anyways, I'll see if Ol' Saint Nick can fit a Zr3 down the chimney.

I find that my x50 is pretty dran good for laser detection i have mine mounted right on top of the review mirror and i drive a van to anyway
i getting fasle alerts from trailblazers brakelights and and the flashing lights from cops cars sometimes sets of my x50 on laser to sometimes i think it acts like the V1 in laser fasleing i really dont like but then again its cool to know that your rd has good sen to pick up laser.

I wouldnt go the zr3 route if they use the stalker in NY. GOL testing proved the zr3 to me amazing against the LTI, but had no effect on the stalker

My friend has a Cobra, I am pretty sure it was a xrs9400, and he told me a recent road trip to GA, he got lasered twice, both times his Cobra gave up ahead warning, the LEO was shooting from an over pass. Also, he drives a F150 truch and has his Cobra mounted high. I have an older Bel and have that mounted high in my Honda Accord, it has also responed to up ahead targeting activity.

Hey FREDMON3, I see that you are at UF, could you verify for me if campus police use X band, in florida it is off the books and should not be used (so I have X disabled), but on a trip last year for a friend graduating from the LAW school, (my X band was still on at that time) I saw 2 officers shooting X band and giving people tickets. Can you confirm this, have you seen it, maybe by now they have stoped and are using at least K band now.
