    Default Switching away from a V1 again: 8500 x50 (S7?), 9500ix, or Redline

I've been using a V1 (3.864) for quite a long time. Maybe this falls under "don't fix it if it's not broken", but I'm itching to try something else.

The 8500 x50 was in my car for a few weeks before the V1, but if memory serves, its performance was just shy of the V1's. I don't know which horn it had, but going by Mem-Tek's explanation of the M4 vs. S7 issue, it probably didn't matter all that much. Then again, it was an early x50 build, and he did suggest that there were horn improvements made to the M4 platform since the early days.

Have never used the 9500ix or Redline. I don't particularly care about GPS functionality, though something a little less chatty than the V1 would be nice. Most of my driving is in the city.

All that said, I'm just curious as to whether it would be a silly thing to try and snag a blue 8500 x50, S7 or M4 (which apparently no longer matters like it once did?), from the Escort eBay store considering that I'm currently on a V1. If not that, is there anything about the 9500ix that makes it worthwhile besides the GPS/lockout functionality? What about the Redline?

I have had a 8500 X50, and a 9500i..... all I can say is stick with the Valentine. You will miss the range...... and those beautiful little arrows

    I have a 9500ix and an 8500 X50 (S7) and both are great RD.

I think the GPS function of the ix is fantastic in a city setting and is so quiet it is scary, but once you get to the highway the difference between it and my V1 is substantial.

The V1 range is greater and the arrows are hard to be without now. My X50 is almost dead even on performance with my IX and even hotter on K band, plus the ramp up on both the X50 and V1 is ALOT better than the ix. X50 is only slightly quieter than the V1 around town, but I believe that has more to do with the sensitivity between the two units. I actually prefer my X50 over the IX....just something about that draws me to it.

If you want a great city RD then the ix is your unit. You want range and sensitivity then stick with your V1 or get a Redline.

I believe you have already got the best windshield RD, but if you decide to pick one then the Redline is close to the V1.

Go with the 9500ix. Since you do mostly city driving, you will benefit more from the ix.
It's up-datable database of speed and red-light cameras is a plus. The latest firmware made the ix only alert you when traveling in the direction that the cameras would get you. That has made my ix even quieter.

I would go for the 9500ix, just to toy with it coming from the V1.

9500ix, all the features will be fun to play with and test. Besides the range between the V1 & 9500ix are close for immanent threats yet almost no falses with the 9500ix.

Speed trap notification, Speed enabled filtering and Spec/Expert mode are awesome features.

You'll miss the V1 when it's gone. Get a 9500ix for city driving but be careful on winding roads.

    See Ya!

    I bought my wife a 9500i
She see's it as a nice "girl's" detector, with it's simplistic display and soothing voice alerts

I agree with all the comments. I started out with the x50 , then to the 9500ix- mostly for muting false signals. I have had the ix for a couple years and really like it. Last month a friend was selling his 3.813 V1 and I bought it. I have the K band auto mute , x off and run in Big L. I hardley get any falses and I like ths size and am able to mount it next to the Rear view mirror- Dodge Neon. I plan on keeping both until the Redline IX comes out or V1 gets Gps. The range is great on the VI. Can I be a Fanboy and Zombie both?
