SOLO Experience

The SOLO S-2 is a great little device. Today I was cruising down a moderately hilly two lane highway with the SOLO mounted high and on the visor when I got a single bar K warning so I reset my trip meter. After 2-3 seconds I got another at two bar signal strength, then another, then another, then a constant after 10 seconds then full blast K. The LEO was hiding in the bushes at the bottom of the second hill waiting for a good speeder to nail. I measured 7/8 mile of range which is pretty good considering he was over the second hill and at the bottom shooting upward. At that moment, I was happy that I purchased this little beauty as my "second" detector. (My other is a V1.)
Just wanted to share a good experience in case anyone is thinking of getting a SOLO S-2 and were afraid it wouldn't protect adequately. I think it's amazing considering it runs on batteries and you can conceal it fairly easily.

Thanks for the tip, I also use the V1 and often wanted a solo as another toy but with the price of it...want to make sure it would hold it's own.

Thanks for the response Dave, I thought no one would! I have a Pick Up truck with a screwed up cig lighter and couldn't use my V-1 so I got this a few months ago. It does work and works well. I've never played them side by side but the Solo holds its own pretty well. I was surprised. They say you give up about 20% range and have little chance against laser and instant on but it's great on good old standard radar. Around here that's as sophisticated as they get, lots of constant on stuff. I like it and it's easy to hide from the VA Cops!

I know how you feel when no one responds friend. Maybe you should hardwire your truck so you can use your V1.

DId you get the S2 new? How long go the batteries last for? I always wondered that.

Do all cops in VA have VG2? I would be worried about getting busted and having your radar taken. :shock:

Yea I could hard wire it but I like having 2 different detectors, sometimes it's just easier and more convenient to use the SOLO and it's fun to see how well each one responds to radar/laser. I have the "VG-2" turned to the "on" position so not worried about that issue any more.
"Illinois sucks!" I used to live there years ago, a south suburb of Chicago and it wasn't too bad but the weather sucked.
I got the SOLO new with intentions of sending it back in 30 days but I liked it so I kept it. It uses batteries like crazy mostly because I forget and leave the thing on sometimes and it uses extra juice that way.
I do love the programmability, ergonomics, aesthetics and small size.

Why do you hate Iillionois??!!

I hate Illinois because the weather, taxes are to Fuc$ing high, hate the Illinois State Police buttholes, and all we have is corn.

I want to live in Cali. I wish I would have gone into the military before I got my Master's degree and enlisted as an officer. I would love to be a CHP officer, been a life long dream. Now I am too fat and old. :cry:

If it wasn't for my kids I would be gone many years ago... :cry:

The S2 looks awesome. I collect old radar detectors. I have one of the original Escorts in good shape....hoping to find an old passport.

is there an alert for low bat? does it come with a power cord?

f-399 yes there is an alert for "low battery" and sometimes I just switch the batteries around and it goes for a couple more days. It really is a nice little detector, I got 1.25 mi warning again tonight of a KA radar trap.

Dave, I recently purchased a vintage Passport off ebay. What is your email address? Or just email me at sitedesignworks@aol.com, I'll tell you a funny story about this purchase.

I go to Illinois on business and did a bicycle race out there last year near Cape Girardeau. I do know what you mean about Illinois but the Southern part of the state is beautiful, at least it is near cairo and the cape.

f-399...the SOLO does come with a free power cord now as part of a promotion, or at least they did in Nov and Dec. The programmable part of the unit is fun to play with and it is packed with features and the blueish LCD is cool to look at. You shoud get it for a month and return it if you don't like it.

I've been using mine for 6 months now... pretty happy with it, small, easy to hide and pretty good against laser (2/2 real-life successful alerts so far), in my area, Toronto, laser is the most favorite tool for the traffic cops... I don't have a power cord, and I think is a BIG mistake to use one where RDs are illegal, I'm using two sets of rechargeable batteries, one set (so two batteries) lasts about 6-7 hours of continous usage... but, at least mine, has a problem, I get no sound alert when to replace the batteries, how I overcome this problem, I now know how long 2 batteries last and after 6 hrs (that's if I'm still on the road) I replace them with the other 2 that I always keep in my pocket and when I get home I recharge all 4 for about 12 hrs...
