    Default pretty proud of the ol' 8500

    this morning i was sitting at mcdonalds drive thru and just before i pull up to the window my 8500 starts going off on K-band what the town cops use. it went off for 10 seconds before i saw the cop go by. keep in mind the building was completely blocking him from the direction he was coming. and it was 90* off axis perpendicular to him!

    it put a on my face!!

    Nice. The 8500 is a good detector ... hell sometimes I wonder why I ever bothered using anything other than my S7. I would have saved a grip of cash if I had never found this stinkin' forum.

    The 8500 is a very nice RD and still does well in overall tests.

    The Escort 8500 held its own in 2005 and is still great today considering the $150 price tag.

    Guys of LIDAR - Radar Detector Test

    V1 3.825

    X = 1356-1456 feet
    K = 1504 feet
    35.5 Ka = 1577-1677 feet

    Escort 8500

    X = 1074-1174 feet or 79%-81% of the V1's X band detection
    K = 1313 feet or 87% of the V1's K band detection
    35.5 Ka = 1577-1677 feet or 100% of the V1's 35.5 Ka band detection

    If you're gonna post post GOL 35.5 numbers, why not post 2009 Ka 35.5 numbers? 2005 is ancient history.

    The 8500 beat three V1's on 35.5 ... only the 3.872 with Ka guard off managed to beat it. It's almost sad seeing those three V1's down there with the Cobra and the Whistlers.

    The 8500 and the 8500 X50 to me is the best RD for the money ever made. Sure a few detectors beat it in testing. I run the X50 and the V1, the V1 nearly always wins but the X50 always gives plenty of warning range to keep me safe.

    There is a reason I swear up and down about recommending the 8500 S7 refurbs to people looking to spend under 200 on an RD.

    thanks for the props guys!!

    this has to be my best oddball encounter with it. because for some reason i never see cops clocking people. they may be sitting on the side of the road but they are always looking down doing something. only other decent encounter i've had was 1/2 mile on 35.5 Ka city cop around corner and slight hill.

    I'm very happy with my S7 X50, my best K-band detection has been 2.5 miles and I've picked up 35.5 at 1 mile a couple times, would have had more 35.5 detection range but I was a mile from the source when I turned onto the road with a strong alert.
